that on our first offensive play from scrimmage, Ingram would have taken it to the house untouched had Smelley not been standing in the running lane? I literally jumped up out of my seat when I saw the replay angle from our backfield. Ingram would have easily split the two VT safeties.

not only was he in the running lane, he also missed a key block. yes that would have been a touchdown. i think there were many missed blocks in that game.

Yah, I noticed it.

When I saw this pic this morning my first thought was, "I wonder if that is the play where..."

New offensive scheme. Needs time to develop.

Execution—hate using that term because it's been used so often. But, it really comes into play with that scheme.

If Smelley is able to block the corner on the first play out of the wildcat, Ingram would have been in a foot race with the lone safety to the endzone. Seriously, everyone should go back and watch the first play. Smelley makes the block and it's probably a touchdown.

I think the formation caught VT totally off guard, although they recovered from that play & defensed it for the most part the rest of the night. I think the formation gives us a great change of pace, & a LOT of offensive options for future games. I hope we continue to develop it.

How do you know what would have happened?

from the instant replay angle (above and behind Ingram), there was no one directly between Ingram and the endzone (except Smelley). there were however two VT defenders (presumably safeties), but they were in too close and split too wide to even lay a hand on a bursting Ingram who effectively would have been running a strait line.
