There wasn't much against Clemson, but Mathis took more than half of the snaps Williams recorded for the game. It's not so much broken down against better opponents, though that comes into play. As a rough ratio, last season Ray and Mathis had one snap for every three that Buggs, Davis, and Williams took (total snaps 600's vs 200's.) Dwight was your third lineman with the 2's and he had fewer than Mathis or Ray.I have not analyzed number of snaps for people so this is speculative but it appeared that during the games against better teams there was not as much rotation. If this is true wouldn't it point to the coaches not having confidence in the backups in those situations?
Musika--a guy who I believed looked pretty good early on in the season--fell out of the rotation after game five. Wynn was discussed a little earlier--coming along nicely and had an injury.
The rotation this season didn't look a lot different than the rotation we saw in 2017. As mentioned earlier, if you don't have things down pat by the time fall camp rolls around you have little chance of getting into the rotations heavily.
