So why is he the only one being put on the block so to speak? The coach, the guy that hold the ball and the complete coaching staff should be on the block.

this has such an easy fix to it.....

HAVE THE NFL PROVIDE THE DAMN BALLS!

they nfl should provide the balls. they should also provide the personnel that inflates and oversees the balls themselves.

before each game, every single ball should be inflated to their (nfl) pro-approved level then stored inside a locked container until the start of the game. after that, that container should be carted out onto the field where nfl personnel should be the only ones allowed to retrieve or place from and into the container.

at halftime, all balls should have their pressure checked one-by-one then, barring any under- or over-inflation be once again placed in the container and the container locked and managed by the same nfl personnel.

after halftime, the container should be unlocked and overseen by those same nfl personnel as before the game, at the start of the game and at halftime of the game.


but i guess that's just too logical.....something the nfl is certainly NOT at most times. and obviously they don't want to be responsible for anything, they just want to dole out the punishment for the ones that are.

Robert Klemko on MMQB with an interesting find.

I think there are bigger fish to fry, but I’d like to hear the commissioner’s explanation for skirting this NFL bylaw that’s been on the books in some form or fashion for 60 years. Bylaw 8.13 (4) says the commissioner must go to the executive committee of owners for approval of any team fine greater than $500,000. Does that mean Goodell presented the Patriots $1 million fine to Giants owner John Mara and nine more owners before handing it down? Or did he simply ignore the bylaw knowing Patriots owner Bob Kraft wouldn’t challenge it? In the end, $1 million is peanuts to Kraft and meaningless in the big picture of Deflategate, but wouldn’t it be bizarre if something like this fell through the cracks? (I reached out to the league for an explanation Monday, but haven’t heard back.)
