🏈 Defensive line future

Thought I'd put this out there - I know I shouldn't be looking ahead, but I can't help it.

Next year are we going to be IN TROUBLE or WHAT, concerning the D-line?

Raekwon - gone. Buggs - gone. Johnny Dwight - gone.

Q Williams -back (and doing great by the way.)

P Mathis - back - I've seen him playing a lot more the last 2 games - great to see!!

LaBryan Ray - back - did a nice job as a pure frosh last year - have you guys seen him playing?????

Christian Barmore - back - heard he is very green; big guy. Pure freshman.

Stephon Wynn - back. Pure freshman. Has he played?

Tevita Musika - juco transfer - back - saw him play last game, but not Saturday.

So we will miss Buggs and R Davis IMMENSELY. It hurt not to get the texan B Brown last year - he is playing some for A&M

So far, two recruits at DT - Rashad Cheney, who many say will not be in the class (maybe we've become disinterested?), and Antonio Alfano. Justin Eboigbe might be a Jon Allen type who becomes a DT. I heard some online rumors we may want a juco DT again - they have worked out more often than not, but not always.

Now I know we have some Jack LB/DE beasts (Terrell Lewis, Chris Allen, Eyabi Anoma, Jarez Parks, A Jennings - not sure Lewis and Jennings stay?) but as far as REPLACING Buggs and R Davis on the line, I am thinking we have mighty slim pickings. We have always been strong on D by winning the battle in the trenches, stopping the run effectively - does this continue next year with this returning depth?

What say you?

Great topic. My take:

-Don't be so sure Q Williams will be back (remember - He's a RS Soph). If he keeps this pace up he's going to have to take a legit look at the NFL. With the smaller stature he may not be a top tier "prospect" but his production and how he impacts the game is off the charts. Plus he's versatile.

-Mathis should be a solid option. Will need him to take another step

-NO IDEA what happened to L. Ray! Mentioned it in previous threads that our "rotation" has been extremely sparse... Thought for sure he would get a ton of snaps. There's something going on there, whether it's his practice habits or off the field issues. If he's not right for next year that's going to be a huge blow.

-I have little to no optimism in playing Musika... Just no need for that type of player anymore. He's lacking the speed to play on anything but goal line or 4th and short.

-Wynn & Barramore will need to step it up!!! Probably more likely Wynn but CB is a monster of a man... Never know.

-Definetly would love to see a JUCO DE and maybe get lucky with a dude like Buggs... Would be on the market for a transfer or two also

Ray played quite a bit Saturday. He'll start next year and be a beast.

They say Barmore has off the charts potential. Mathis has played a decent amount this year. Wynn just coming back from injury.

As a recruit Alfono is a monster

Good to hear Ray played a good bit - just did NOT notice it - still not sure who steps up to take the place of Buggs, or Davis, next year?

S. Wynn was injured Aug 18 he got a few snaps against Ole Miss did not see him involved against A&M
Agree with above - QDub may have to look at the league, if he continues to get accolades and may not be back next year. (I believe he would be better off if he did come back)
Seems I remember Ray being injured, but cant find anything on it now? He is not getting much early playing time.
Regardless, next year the D Line will be very inexperienced Good to see Anoma getting lots of time in the 2nd half of these games.
Hope Moses is learning lots, ILB will also be very weak next year. Holcombe not coming back this year, McMillon will be most experienced inside guy next year. would imagine Moses and Benton would be ILB with McMillon and Moody as back ups along with new freshmen

I share the sentiment. It is extremely important to land Ishmael Sopher and/or Faatui Tuitele this recruiting class. Hopefully we will pick back up recruiting Devonta Lee as well because Deionte Thompson is likely gone after this year with all the NFL hype he's been receiving from guys like Ed Reed and Earl Thomas. Hopefully, he will stay along with Mack Wilson and Lewis.

And the way I understand it Thompson is going to court in October. Talk about bad timing.

You are correct. I've read were he is completely innocent of all charges and only named because of who he is, but apparently there is video implicating him in the altercation. Who knows? I guess we will find out soon enough.

It's that videotape that you mentioned that has all of us sweating it out. This was from some of the legal proceedings for Thompson coming up.

According to the documents, two other important dates to keep an eye on will be September 21st, when a motion to suppress is heard. This is a request by the defendant to have certain evidence excluded from the trial that sometimes leads to a dismissal. Also, a pre-trial conference to establish ground rules for the trial is set for September 28th. This is also another stage where charges could be dropped.

I'm nervous about this situation....

Per Bama3714 on the Rant
Juco DE/OLB Chester Graves is one to watch. Bama likes what they see from him. He's been a beast so far this year. #1 overall Juco recruit in the country. Probably a backup plan to Thib. Will be interesting to see how it pans out here. Thib, Bogle, and Graves are all awesome options. Really can't go wrong there

In listening to a podcast with Dan Jeremiah and Rich Eisen they talked about how deep the DT/DE draft will be this year. Just looking at the fronts for Clemson/tOSU/aubie they see at least 6 first rounders.

Any chance this gets R Davis thinking about coming back a la J Allen????
