🏈 Defensive back takes Alabama's 'Ball Out' championship belt

Maurice Smith jogged from the end zone to the opposing team's sideline, grabbed the "Ball Out" championship belt and trotted back across the field with the belt hanging over his shoulder.

Alabama coaches created the belt for this spring, a fun way of encouraging players to create turnovers after being dissatisfied with the Tide's takeaway total last season.

A winner was selected following each spring practice and scrimmage after being determined to have had the most strip attempts, batted balls and production points during that particular session.

Smith took the belt after an interception of quarterback Jake Coker during Alabama's A-Day game Saturday that he returned 51 yards for a touchdown.

"We had a competition going on [Saturday]," linebacker Reggie Ragland said. "Coach Smart was like, 'Whoever gets a turnover or an interception or anything can run over and take the belt, and whoever gets a pick on the other team gets [to go] over there and brings it back."

Ragland, linebacker Dillon Lee and cornerback Tony Brown were among the players to win the belt during the spring.
