šŸ“ December Recruiting- 15 in, three committed, with roughly 8 spots left

I Would love to see a little more of a running game with these talented guys we have .

We haft to control the ball more with long consistent drives to keep our defense fresh for the fourth ...

Put the play count on their defense this year and wear their ass down .

I think he does. I think it's just one of several things that keep his fire burning.

I agree , he has stated many times the love they felt in ā€˜07 coming on the field on A-day (I was there :hyper: ) and that they were gonna use that love of BAMA in recruiting.

I’m sure he will be attending a lot of BAMA basketball games with recruits , seeing how he loves the game and BAMA being good is another recruiting tool he will use ..

Alabama HC Nick Saban and OL coach Brent Key will have an in-home visit with Penei Sewell, Rivals100 offensive tackle from Desert Hills High School in St. George, Utah, on Wednesday. It will mark the third week in a row Alabama will see Sewell.

Alabama will also see Nick Petit-Frere, Rivals100 offensive tackle from Berkeley Prep in Tampa, Florida. Coach Key plans to visit him on Tuesday. This is the third time Key will see Petit-Frere.

Emory Jones doesn't really talk. We may know something this week. We may know something on December 20.
The general consensus is he's still expected to flip. Ohio State received a verbal from a kid out of Texas last week, Matthew Baldwin, that Bama had their eyes on as well. Keep in mind OSU is expected to sign two quarterbacks.

BONE: 10 recruiting thoughts
1. The University of Alabama hosted five recruits this past weekend which included three commitments. The original plan was set for eight recruits, but three canceled and may not reschedule their trips.

Andres Fox, three-star defensive end from Mobile Christian in Alabama, canceled his trip to Tuscaloosa on Friday. I've heard a few different things regarding the sudden change in plans including road conditions. Alabama has recruited Fox for a long time. He was a borderline take when he first received an offer in the early part of spring. Jeremy Pruitt went to see him during the spring evaluation period in May and opted to push for him to join the class.

Alabama made the decision to go all-in on Fox after a few different evaluations including when he attended the Tide's camp. There hasn't been a point where he was not considered a take. It's been a tight battle between Alabama, Auburn and LSU for several months.

It looks like Alabama will slow down its recruiting efforts with the departure of Pruitt. There is a good chance he will not visit at all. Some suggested I was saying Pruitt makes the call on who has loffers and who doesn't. Not the case, but when the DC presses hard for a recruit in the class the rest of the staff will go along. It works the other way. I remember a few years ago when Jeremy Pruitt (Alabama's DB coach) wanted Jalen Ramsey in the class. Alabama's former DC (Kirby Smart) was not as sold on him. Thus, Alabama did not make a run at him until very late in the process.

AJ Lytton, Rivals100 cornerback from Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, missed his official visit due to the weather. There really isn't any talk yet of a Lytton rescheduling the trip. He is currently committed to Florida State. Lytton is not considered as one of Alabama's top DB targets. The Tide has three DB commitments (Saivion Smith, Nadab Joseph, Jalyn Armour-Davis). Alabama has other key DB targets (discussed below) who they are waiting on before they accept other commitments. Most expect Lytton to stick with the Seminoles.

KJ Henry, five-star defensive end from West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, North Carolina, canceled hs official visit on Thursday. I've heard Alabama told him the numbers are extremely tight and they just don't know if any additional spots at the position. Now keep in mind, Alabama is recruiting Henry as an outside linebacker/edge rusher.

Alabama has commitments from Cameron Latu and Jordan Davis who are recruited for the position. Alabama will also bring in grayshirt Jarez Parks in January. Eyabi Anoma, five-star defensive end from St. Francis High School in Baltimore, is the Crimson Tide's top target at the position (more on him later). Alabama does not have to take another player at this position even though Henry is a five-star. Henry was also not signing with Alabama even if he visited Tuscaloosa this past weekend. Alabama could spend additional time with Anoma. It was Alabama's decision.

Now onto the guys who were in Tuscaloosa....

Eyabi Anoma- The long time Alabama lean was in town with his mentor and was hosted by Maryland native, Trevon Diggs. The visit went really well as expected. Anoma has some grade issues, but should be able to overcome from what I’ve been told as of Monday afternoon. Alabama is confident he will qualify. Alabama is in the driver’s seat for his signature.

Christian Barmore, four-star defensive tackle from Neumman-Goretti High School in Philadelphia, surged up Alabama's recruiting board this fall. He became one of Alabama's top defensive targets. Barmore had an in-home visit a week ago with Nick Saban and Karl Dunbar. Alabama learned more about Barmore's academic situation during his visit and spoke more in-depth with him this past weekend about possible options. Barmore was in Tuscaloosa with his mother and step-father. It's unclear what Barmore will do at this time. Prep school or junior college are options. I'm not sure if this is a 100-percent guarantee of him not qualifying, but it does not look good at this time.

There really isn't a lot to say about the three Alabama commitments who visited- Cameron Latu, four-star defensive end from Olympus High School in Salt Lake City, Jalyn Armour-Davis, four-star cornerback from St. Paul's in Mobile, and Skyler Delong, three-star punter from Nation Ford High School in Fort Mill, South Carolina, other than all are all solid commitments and plan to sign on December 20. Armour-Davis and Delong will report to Alabama on January 5.

2. Brenton Cox, Rivals100 defensive end from Stockbridge High School in Georgia, announced his decommitment from Ohio State last week. The decision came after taking an official visit to Alabama. The Crimson Tide appeared to have a little momentum with Cox, but it seems like all of it has swayed in favor of Georgia. Cox took a surprise unofficial visit to Georgia this past weekend, and will return to Athens this weekend for an official visit. Alabama will visit with Cox again this week. He is expected to make a decision by December 20. The feeling as of now is he will sign with Georgia.

So who does Alabama turn to at defensive end?

Alabama extended an offer a week ago to Malik Langham, three-star defensive end from Lee High School in Huntsville. Langham took an official visit to Notre Dame this past weekend. He will visit Alabama in January. Expect the Crimson Tide to make a big push for him. I think Alabama will land Langham in the end.

Tyler Friday, Rivals100 defensive end from Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, New Jersey, is expected to take an official visit to Alabama this weekend. Friday is one of Alabama's top defensive line targets. He recently replaced UCLA with Alabama as one of his top five schools. This could become a major coup for Alabama if they land his signature.

Alabama will also host Casey Rogers, defensive end from Avon Old Farms Prep School in Connecticut, this weekend. Rogers, a former Syracuse Lacrosse commitment, was a standout at Alabama's camp during the summer. He worked out at tight end, defensive end and outside linebacker. He is a very good athlete who stands 6-foot-5, 245-pounds. Rogers took an official visit to Ohio State this past weekend.

Alabama has done a really good job of getting back in with Bobby Brown,four-star defensive end from Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas. It will surprise me if he flips from A&M though. I expect he will stick with the Aggies. Tyreke Smith, Rivals100 defensive end from Cleveland Heights High School in Ohio, is likely down to Ohio State and Penn State. It's possible we see Alabama make a push for Mike Williams, three-star defensive end from Dunham High School in Baton Rouge. Alabama has liked Williams for a long time, but others have been ahead of him on the recruiting board.

3. Billy Ferrell, three-star defensive tackle from Fordyce High School in Arkansas, received an offer from Alabama last week. He received an offer from Arkansas shortly after his offer from the Crimson Tide. Alabama really needs to add at least one more interior defensive lineman in this year's class. Alabama will get edge rushers and defensive ends. They need some size in the middle especially with the likeness of Barmore heading to JuCo, prep school or another program. Ferrell will take an official visit to UCLA this weekend. He is expected to take an official visit to Alabama in January. Alabama is very high on him after evaluating his senior film. Coach Dunbar visited Ferrell last week. Alabama will make a very strong push for him.

I wouldn't rule out Jalen Cunningham, four-star defensive tackle from St. Clair County High School in Odenville, Alabama. I expect Alabama will likely re-visit a few other DL targets if they miss on some more guys.

4. I know many are concerned with the impact Jeremy Pruitt will have on recruiting and we have seen Tennessee extend several offers to Alabama targets in the last few days. JJ Peterson, Rivals100 linebacker from Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Georgia, has been a heavy Alabama lean for a long time. Peterson doesn't really talk to the media, so it's hard to say what he is thinking at this time. Alabama is definitely still in the race, but we expect Tennessee has become a serious contender.

Jacob Copeland, four-star wide receiver from Escambia High School in Pensacola, has stated Tennessee is definitely in the race. The former Florida commitment was recruited by Pruitt. I don't see Copeland signing with Alabama at this time. I don't think Pruitt leaving will cause any current commitments to go elsewhere. Quay Walker and Vernon Jackson will take official visits, but Alabama believes it remains in good shape to keep both on board.

5. Alabama had a great week last week in terms of commitments. The Tide added three- Saivion Smith, four-star safety from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston, Nadab Joseph, Rivals100 cornerback from Norland High School in Miami, and Michael Parker,three-star tight end from Westminster Christian in Huntsville. Alabama appears on the verge of adding more commitments especially as we approach early signing day (December 20).

Josh Jobe, four-star cornerback from Cheshire Academy in Connecticut, will take an official visit to Alabama this weekend. Jobe had a a great visit with Nick Saban last weekend. Coach Saban also visited with Jobe's family in Miami. It will come as a major surprise if Jobe doesn't flip his commitment from Miami to Alabama. Minkah Fitzpatrick winning the Thorpe award and Bednarik award on Saturday certainly doesn't hurt Alabama's chances with defensive back targets.

Emory Jones, Rivals100 quarterback from Heard County High School in Franklin, Georgia, will likely announce a final decision on or before December 20. He could wait until the first week of January to decide, but most expect a final decision to come very soon. Ohio State went ahead and took a commitment last week from Matthew Baldwin, three-star quarterback from Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas. Most took it as a sign that Jones was heading to Alabama. The Buckeyes didn't want to be left without a quarterback. They will take both if Jones decides to stick. I've heard both sides expect to know something within the next week or so. Both sides remain optimistic, but they don't have a solid feel on what Jones will do at this time.

Dominick Anderson, four-star tight end from Arizona Western in Yuma, expects to sign on December 20. He visited Texas A&M this past weekend. The Aggies accepted a JuCo TE commitment on Sunday night. I still think Alabama is in very good shape with Anderson.

We'll see final announcements from players mentioned above like Bobby Brown and Brenton Cox during the course of the next few weeks. Justin Watkins, four-star athlete from East Ridge High School in Clermont, Florida, will announce on January 4 at the Under Armour All-America game between Alabama and LSU. I expect Watkins to choose LSU.

Things have been relatively quiet with Brandon Kaho, Rivals100 linebacker from Reno High School in Nevada. There is a chance he could commit soon or possibly wait. He has already taken an official visit to Alabama. Kaho remains committed to BYU, but most assume he will flip. The two main contenders are Alabama and USC. Alabama has felt pretty good about him since his official visit, and he is recruited by Tosh Lupoi.

6. Nothing has really changed on the offensive line recruiting front. Alabama continues to hammer its top two targets- Penei Sewell,Rivals100 offensive tackle from Desert Hills High School in St. George, Utah and Nick Petit-Frere, Rivals100 offensive tackle from Berkeley Prep in Tampa. Alabama will see both recruits for the third week in a row this week. Alabama OL coach Brent Key will see Petit-Frere on Tuesday before flying with Nick Saban on Wednesday to see Sewell. Alabama believes both have first round potential. I keep hearing Alabama will only take one of the two. There is a chance it changes depending on what happens at some other positions.

7. There isn't much change on the wide receiver front. Texas A&M is making a very strong push for Jaylen Waddle, Rivals100 wide receiver from Episcopal High School in Houston. I don't expect that to change. I've said it will take a lot for Waddle to go somewhere other than Alabama. I believe he has been set on the Crimson Tide for a while. I still believe that's the case.

Chances continue to increase for Justyn Ross, five-star wide receiver from Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama. It's tight battle with Alabama and Clemson. Auburn is in the race, but from all sources it seems like a battle between the two playoff foes.

Joshua Moore, four-star wide receiver from Yoakum High School in Texas, announced his decommitment from Nebraska on Sunday. He took an official visit to Alabama, and the Tide recently went to see him. Alabama is pushing harder for Waddle and Ross at this time.

8. James Foster, three-star quarterback from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, is a very good option for Alabama if the Crimson Tide misses on Emory Jones. Foster had a great senior season with more than 3,000 yards of offense and 41 touchdowns. Foster said he is in communication with Alabama OC Brian Daboll on a daily basis. I think it's a very good move for Alabama to stay in constant contact with all potential guys who could be in the class regardless if they accept a commitment at this time. I definitely expect Alabama to make a very strong push for Foster if Jones sticks with Ohio State.

9. Alabama continues to grind on the DB recruiting front. The Crimson Tide should have four DB commitments by Christmas- Armour-Davis, Smith, Joseph and Jobe. Alabama will make a strong push for at least one, possibly two more DBs. Alabama has seen Patrick Surtain, five-star cornerback and Tyson Campbell, Rivals100 cornerback from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida, the last two weeks. Alabama will see both again this week. Alabama believes it has a chance to sign one of the two. Both will take official visits to Alabama in January.

What if Bama misses on both?

It's a tough position for Alabama because Campbell and Surtain plan to wait until signing day to announce a decision. Does Alabama take another DB and miss on Surtain and/or Campbell? Alabama really wants to wait to see what might happen especially with both coming in for official visits next month.

Trey Dean, four-star safety from Dutchtown High School in Hampton, Georgia, expects to decide within the next week. Alabama likes Dean a lot, but may not be in a position to take him this month.

Keep an eye on Jaycee Horn, four-star cornerback from Alpharetta High School in Georgia. I've been told he's probably the next guy on the list after Campbell and Surtain. Some on Alabama's staff compare him to Eddie Jackson. He didn't start playing football until his junior season despite being the son of former NFL wide receiver Joe Horn. Horn is supposed to take an official visit to Alabama on January 26.

Alabama remains in communication with Kelvin Joseph, Rivals100 safety from Scotlandville High School in Baton Rouge. It just seems like he will eventually end up back in LSU's recruiting class.

Isaac Taylor-Stuart, five-star cornerback from St. Augustine High School in San Diego, is supposed to take an official visit to Alabama this weekend. He had an in-home visit with Tosh Lupoi last week. Yes, he is a five-star but most understand the numbers situation and how Campbell, Sutain and Jobe are a the top of the board. We will see if anything changes this week.

10. I'm in the same boat with many of you. I think there is growing concern in Tuscaloosa regarding this recruiting class. I think Alabama will meet some needs, but it will also miss on several key targets which hasn't been the case throughout the last several years. There is a good chance Alabama finishes with a top five recruiting class, but still a little disappointed because needs were not met at certain positions.

It's only December which is good news. It's not two weeks away from National Signing Day. Though we are nine days away from the early signing period. Alabama has plenty of time to close strong. I heard there was a pretty intense meeting at the Alabama football complex on Sunday with Nick Saban and the assistant coaches in regards to the class and the plans for this week. Expect Alabama to really turn up its recruiting efforts on key targets.

Recruiting - BONE: 10 recruiting thoughts | BamaInsider.com

So Andrew Bone said what a lot of Alabama fans have kinda feared for the longest during this recruiting cycle. With all the SEC coaching upheaval how in the world can we not get on top of all this instability?

Exactly. Everyone has been worried because we don't have a lot of commitments which is very different from the norm for Bama. From reading the update, it looks like we are missing on recruits we normally get. Bama is having to go further down the "list" to pick up recruits in positions of need.

I'm a little more perturbed at the fact we don't have a lot of highly rated prospects coming to us, and not even in their Top 3 or 5. Is the stacked roster finally catching up to us and recruits listening to the negative recruiting?

"I remember a few years ago when Jeremy Pruitt (Alabama's DB coach) wanted Jalen Ramsey in the class. Alabama's former DC (Kirby Smart) was not as sold on him. Thus, Alabama did not make a run at him until very late in the process."

Wow, solid job Curbee. That guy turned out to not be worth the risk, :sarcasm:.
