🏈 David Pollack: "Quennin Williams is the best defensive player Saban has had at Alabama." How do you feel about that statement? True, or false?

It sounds like a good question for Saban to be asked in his next press conference. We know how much he likes comparing players to each other!

Back to the question: Is Q the best defensive player Saban has had since he's been in Tuscaloosa? I don't know...

Well....David is wrong. There is no Quentin Williams on the team.

Quennin Williams is another story. Pollack has played DL at a high level, and knows way more than I do in regards to this. I would be interested to see if Cole Cublic agrees with Pollack.

Quinnen is outstanding. There have been so many, and it's hard for me to equally compare DL/DE/LB/DB. He's the most disruptive NT I've seen at Bama since Willie Wyatt. Can't remember another stud NT from the 70's-80's. Showed up as a FB, got bigger, kept his #34.

Alabama Crimson Tide football under Nick Saban - Wikipedia

Let's just assume that the best defender under Nick Saban was a first team All-American. I know I'm leaving out some very good players, but this is the cream of the crop: MINKAH, Marlon, Reuben, Jonathan Allen, A'Shawn, Ragland, DePriest, COLLINS, MOSLEY, Ha Ha, Milliner, Upshaw, Menzie, Dre, Javy, Hightower, BARRON, Orlando McCain, Cody and Rashad.

My all caps, I place ahead of Quinnen. My bold, I consider them comparable. What a defensive squad this is!

And, in your other post on NOTs, absent on this list is Eddie Jackson, who was a NOT machine.

My first thought was CJ. How much of that is based on timing? I do think he's the best linebacker in pass coverage we've seen under Saban. And, considering it's a defense that's pretty much led by linebackers and it was a concern up until his day...

You made me go check my own spelling.

Channeling Verne this morning, Tim?

Couldn't resist. It's the all-time butchery by the master butcher.

He may not be the best defensive player Saban has had, but I think he may be the most important one. We have a lot of studs on defense, but I have not seen a true alpha or multiple alphas like we have seen in the past, so I think Williams doing what he has done has been the most important to this team and to Saban.

It always feels like every time anyone has the who's the best argument it seems to take a body of work approach. On that basis alone I would say no. Productivity over the long haul is important. Now, if the Q man wants to build on his resume next year I'll be happy to reconsider.
