🏈 Danny Sheridan says Gus is mediocre, Florida still has some catching up to do, and Clemson wouldn't make it in the SEC undefeated.

On the same day ESPN's Aschoff said Dabo is one of the top five coaches of all time because of what he's been able to do at Clemson. That's WAY overboard in my opinion.

Dabo has done a terrific job, but he did not bring Clemson back from the dead or anything. IPTAY has always had money, Clemson has always recruited well, and they have been favored by coaches and the media for years before Dabo got there. They weren't a program with zero past, so clearly as he was wrong with that shirt and tie combo, he's wrong with these comments as well.

You got Bear and Saban Top 5 without question all-time. Would love to see his other three and who Dabo jumped.

@BamaFan334
I agree. Right now Dabo probably isnt top 5 of all time.
A thought that circles into the thread about whether he'd be a fit in Tuscaloosa.

To me, a top five ranking would have to include being able to duplicate what he's done at Clemson. Urban, with his warts, fits that bill because he did it twice. You can argue the same with Bryant, and you've seen it with Saban.

I still harbor a lot of strong doubt that Dabo could handle the fishbowl that is the head coaching position at Bama. A part of that doubt lies in the same arena as the views we take of players who end up in New York: can they handle that media and that spotlight?

@TerryP
Could dabo handle the fishbowl of Bama...interesting...
Winning one place...and winning at another.....lot different....i think osu pressure got to Urban....more than Florida....
but winning gives one a lot of space.....Dabo is awesome..in my opinion....
Has 2 nattys....close on another...
going to be around a long time.....Clemson is a great place for him...
And has the team to be in hunt in 19....
Maybe only Bama standing in his way...and only clemson for nick
Will dabo end up with 8-9 nattys?

Dabo has benefitted from an ACC that has been mostly down for years. Yes he has done very well there, but he is not facing stiff competition that often.

Exactly. Dabo is still an excellent coach and deserves credit for his performances in the CFPs. However, the ACC has been extremely down for several years now and that has allowed Clemson to go through a regular season not just fairly easily, but also very healthy as well - they have not gotten beaten up during the regular season and they haven't been very challenged. They're lucky they scheduled A&M early - they had the whole summer to prepare and they still almost lost. Had they played later in the season they would have. They struggled with Syracuse inexplicably again and they weren't challenged again the whole season - and don't tell me Pitt was a legit challenge (how would they have done against Georgia). Notre Dame was a joke. They had almost a whole month to prepare for us. We had Georgia and Oklahoma in a row - both games major challenges.

Had we the luxury to play ND and Clemson play OK in the first round, would we have won? It's pure speculation and no way to know. It surely would have been a more evenly played game, anyway.

Dabo has done a great job at Clemson in recent years. Nonetheless, in his first seven years at Clemson - when teams like FSU, VaTech, Miami, and others were far more relevant - he won the conference title only once. He does have 8 double digit win seasons in a row, but he will need to keep that going especially when (if!) the rest of the ACC starts to play real football again. Top five all-time is possible as he has two natty's already. However, if you look at the list, he will probably need at least 4 of those to crack the top five and a heckuvalot more wins, too.

Danny isn't wrong. If Clemson played the gauntlet of LSwho, BAMA, Miss State, Barn, A&M or UGA, UF from the East, they would likely have to deal with more injuries and with the struggle of getting up for a big game week after week. They have struggled in the past with the likes of Pittsburgh and Syracuse WITHOUT the threat of an imposing opponent the week before. The ACC has been weak and Clemson and Dabo have taken advantage of the situation quite well.
Give Mullen another class and Bowlcut Kirby will be getting some pressure.
Gus is a proven 8-9 win coach with a wild hair of 10-11 on occasion. He is paid way too much for the product he puts out.

Well. True what you say....to some degree....clemson did play Tx AnM...USCe...Bama....fromSEC..3-0 vs them..... and ND as we know...
Miami, fsu,ga tech, nc state, va tech....in acc....some..most years that would be a pretty tough run
In 2017...bama, usce, Louisville, other acc schools..in most years are tough...
2016...acc...+AU...usce...bama..3-0 again vs sec...& ohio state
Maybe screwed up something but get my drift...
2019 aligns as a weak acc year....but dont think clemson isat fault and believe most years schedule pretty tough... someyears....arkansas, Mississippi state, Mississippi, AU etc. tennessee...aret that rough either
I think what Clemson has to do is ....win...when it is expected...consistently.....regardless of opponents.... you want to be compared to bama....thats what u gotta do...
Til then...its nice win...nice season

They did but those games weren’t back to back to back. USCe also hasn’t been worth a shit since Spurrier’s next to last season. Before Spurrier up and quit, he did have a 5 game win streak against the Fightin Dabo’s.
My point really was that the weekly grind of the SEC over the last 10-12 years has been much tougher than the ACC.

Agree.....the weekly grind...and evaluated over some time.... 100% right

I hate it when a talking head spouts off with idiotic drivel. Clemson will never be required to play through the SEC. Considering we went undefeated through the SEC and .....well you know the story.
