@OldPlayer I think my point may have been missed (or miscommunicated.)

Take a guy like Alvarez. He's the type of guy who I believe doesn't care what those in the media may say about the rankings of which he's a part. On the other hand, Pat Haden struck me as a guy who'd get swayed by outside influences.

I'm not talking about their specific team or conference affiliation. I'm talking about some being swayed by others opinions of their opinions.

Perhaps I've got a cynical view here. But, based on human nature, I believe they look to see what reactions they're getting with their rankings.

When I see Jeff Long, or say Bill Hancock, make comments on Tuesday nights about the voting/ranking and see these comments revolve around discussions already voiced/seen from major media outlets it leads me to believe they are paying attention: and therein swayed.

I agree, and I have to believe that the committee is begging the football gods for Stanford to beat Notre Lame so a Little 12 team can get in the playoff.

I hear what you're saying, but that's why there is a committee. Debate occurs. I'm sure that if any committee member starts sounding like the media, other members will offer their input. There is a lot of discussion during their meetings (it's not just voting) and I'm sure they discuss the rationale for why they rank high or low because the media will ask. (Any good spokesperson will be briefed on possible press questions prior to meeting with the press). Any media debates that occur during the week could be part of the rationale for voting a certain way but other committee members can offer an opposite view. The members of the committee are knowledgeable about football, it's not a beauty contest (as indicated when Alabama was in the top 4 in week 1).
