šŸˆ Dabo on a 12 team playoff: There aren't 12 teams good enough? He's right.

"I knew when it went to four, it was going to become all about the playoff, and when it goes to 12, it's going to become more about the playoff, but it's inevitable," Swinney said. "Some people will say, 'Well you've been in the playoff. If we can get in with four, we're going to get in with 12.' Our odds aren't going to go down, so it's not about that.

"Our team isn't for it. They don't want to play more games. And to be honest with you, I don't know if there's 12 teams good enough. So you're going to play more games just to play more games. And I think the more you expand it, the less important the season becomes and the more you become the NFL, as far as all right, you're in the playoffs? Well, you know, why play Trevor [Lawrence] in this game if you're already in? All of a sudden you're not in the top 12 and kids just aren't playing."

sure it's a good analogy...
When you’re taking the 6/7/8/9th teams from a conference...
With what chance-to win a NC
Realistically...zero
Realistically zero chance to win the title but it's a good thing to have teams in with, realistically, zero chance to win the title. I don't know in what world that makes sense; certainly not mine.

It's not a good analogy for a multitude of reasons. One, it's adding five games to the schedule in a sport that's vastly different. Two, the talent pool across the nation is also different due to the sport itself: it's less expensive to play basketball. That's what leads to seeing 350 D1 teams in basketball and parity.

Since you've brought it up, let's take that field of 68 now and take it to 48: four regionals like today but only 12 seeds. Roughly 35% of the time we'll see a five seed advance. We jump to 13 seeds and the numbers change drastically. Now we're into "bad ball games."

Let's circle back to what's on the table. With the number left at four we're at least seeing three good ball games per year. That fourth seed can make it all the way. If we're moving to eight, now we're—using your analogy—into the five versus 12 matchup. We move to nine? Maybe eight of ten times we see an upset (again, using your analogy.)

As we progress to more team we also progress close to what? A playoff that looks like the #1 vs #16 seed in basketball. There's simply not enough good teams in the sport.

Two sixteen team divisions headed to one championship game.
Wow.... that’s interesting....

I honestly don't know what-to expect........

with those that control the dice...
Focused on money generation

i do know.... coming outta HS ....there gonna be kids making decisions about where they attend college....based on how much money they will make immediately....
