šŸ“ Crimson Tide flips longtime Oklahoma commitment: Drew Sanders, Linebacker - TideSports.com

Drew Sanders, a top 50 national football prospect who had been committed to Oklahoma for more than a year, said on social media Monday night he had changed his commitment to the University of Alabama.

The 6-foot-5, 222-pound Sanders, from Ryan High School in Denton, Texas, visited Tuscaloosa last weekend. He said via his Twitter account Monday he was now 100 percent committed to Alabama.

ā€œMy recruiting is 100% over. I will be playing football and attending the University of Alabama!! #RollTideā€

The 247 Composite recruiting rankings list Sanders as the No. 34 prospect in America and the No. 4 prospect in talent-rich Texas. He has experience at a number of positions, including quarterback and tight end, although many projections see him as an outside linebacker on defense.

Alabama currently has 16 players committed to its 2020 class, which can sign with the school beginning in December.

I think we'll see him moving around at positions after he enroll. I anticipate him to alternate between ILB and OLB for a while. I wouldn't be shocked if he played safety.
I don't see safety at his size. 6'5 222lbs as a junior in high school. He will pack on more pounds in the next couple of years. According to Orr, Bama sold him on playing linebacker. I could see him as a TE.

Someone feel free to correct me, but didn't OU recruit him as a TE? Isn't that playing LB what sold him to come to UA?
His recruitment is a lot like that of Rashaan Evans in my view.

With Evans, AU was pitching how they were going to build a defense around his position and Bama pitched him on how they'd use him in their scheme. One was "here's our idea," the other was "here's what we do."

OU pitched him on the choice of playing offense (TE) or defense (LB.) Bama pitched him exclusively on how they'd use him in the linebacker role.

A quote from his high school coach:

"I think that Drew really wanted to be a tight end," says Ryan head coach Dave Henigan. "But his dad is on my staff here. They looked at the big picture for his future and they realized it's at linebacker. And if you're going to play defense, why not at Alabama? Alabama is as good or better on defense as any school in the country. I think that had a lot to do with his decision.
