TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama practiced for two hours outside at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields on Tuesday, continuing preparations for this weekend’s game with Kentucky.

Also on Tuesday, Najee Harris was selected as one of 20 semifinalists for the fourth annual Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award. The award focuses primarily on a player’s leadership, both on and off the field. The semifinalists have all demonstrated leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship. The finalists will be named on Dec. 16 with the winner being announced at the award ceremony on Feb. 16, 2021. The winner of the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award will also receive a $10,000 contribution in his name to his school’s athletic scholarship fund.

Why Kentucky Will Win
This might not be the year Kentucky was hoping for with just two wins and a whole lot of good battles in close losses, but it’s not playing all that poorly, at least when it comes to its style.

This is never going to be the team that gets into firefights – unless it’s against Ole Miss, but that goes for everyone.

The offensive line doesn’t allow a whole lot of plays behind the line, the defense is great at taking the ball away, and it’s a rock in the red zone thanks to a secondary that’s able to keep the big plays to a minimum.

As always, Kentucky has a way of grinding things down to a dead stop. It got into a wee bit of a shootout in the win over Vanderbilt, but if it can get a ten point lead, that’s – it’s really not a cliché here – like a three touchdown team for almost anyone else.

However …

Why Alabama Will Win
Get a ten point lead on Kentucky, and it’s like getting a three touchdown lead on anyone else. The offensive pop just isn’t there.

The Wildcats haven’t faced all that many high-powered passing games, but they’ve still been hit for well over 200 yards by everyone but Georgia and Tennessee.

You can’t grind things down against this Bama team, and if you can, it’ll come up with a scoring drive in four plays and 90 seconds while you’re dinking around trying to go on a march.

Mac Jones might not be putting up Kyle Trask-like numbers, but he’s been brilliant, he’s got the weapons around him, and Kentucky can’t keep up.

What’s Going To Happen

Does Alabama own this series? Kentucky won in 1997, pulled off a victory in 1922, and managed a tie in 1939 – and that’s it.

As always, Alabama will get up fast, have this thing won after the first quarter, and will gear down and look to work on the defense and other parts the rest of the way. Kentucky’s defense, though, won’t let this get too ridiculous.

Again, the scores when it comes to Kentucky are all relative. Even if the final score doesn’t have a bazillion combined points, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a strong performance by the winner.

Looks like Nick got a haircut

Hopefully Bama will come out of the gate and take care of business at kickoff. You don't want to allow UK to believe they can win the game. So important to take the ball and score 7 and get ahead of them. NO 3 pointers early unless that makes the score 10-zip. UK will be content to shorten the game taking the full 35 for each play (Bama does better vs those teams that don't go fast) but we have to get them off the field on 3rd down.

We'll see.

Kentucky football has beaten three No. 1 ranked teams in its history but never won at Alabama. Here is a closer look at UK's record vs. No. 1 squads.

LEXINGTON — Mark Stoops is no stranger to talented football teams.

His brother Bob was head coach of the 2000 national champion Oklahoma Sooners. He was an assistant coach for the 2001 national champion Miami Hurricanes.

So when Stoops talks about Nick Saban's current Alabama team, there is reason to take note.

"Maybe as good an offensive team as I’ve seen since I’ve been a head coach and a coordinator," Stoops said. "It’s been a long time since I’ve seen someone as explosive as they are offensively because they’re so balanced."

The No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide are favored by more than 30 points against Kentucky this week. Saban's squad is averaging 47.2 points per game and has beaten its first six opponents by an average 25.2 points per game. Alabama's last two wins over Tennessee and Mississippi State have come by a combined 72 points.

UK has never won in Tuscaloosa and is 0-21-1 all-time against the Crimson Tide in the state of Alabama.

For all those reasons, Kentucky's chances of pulling off the massive upset this week are slim. A win would not be UK's first over a No. 1-ranked squad though.

Kentucky is 3-13 all-time against No. 1-ranked teams. The Wildcats have lost lost five straight against teams at the top of the Associated Press top 25, including a 34-6 loss to Alabama in 2016, the two team's most recent meeting.

The majority of Kentucky's games against No. 1 teams have not been close, but fans can take heart in the 2007 three-overtime victory over No. 1 LSU, a team that went on to win the national championship, as proof anything is possible.
