Most Bama fans have a love/ hate relationship when it comes to Eli. Personally i like him on the air. Don't know him personally, never had the pleasure. And IMO Eli does a fairly good job. But lets face it Eli ain't getting any younger and will one day be put out to pasture. So i pose the question here of my fellow crimson faithful...if Eli were to retire after this year....would Chris Stewart be the guy to replace Eli? if Not Chris then Who? And what is your opinion on Savage? He's not Snake but he's servicable. I think i'm on record as wanting Jay Barker to have replaced Kenny.

Could Chris do the job?

Pontificate if you will........

A'ight, I'll bite.

Eli is getting old...for Middle Linebackers, but as announcers go he's still a pup. Think about Muncy at Georgia, Carey with the ChiCubs, or Bama grad Mel Allen of the Yankees. Eyes and a voice are all these guys need. Eli could literally still have a decade or two behind some mic.

All that said, it is interesting to note how every element has gone high tech, first rate, and uber professional. Billion dollar T.V. contracts, HD screens inside the stadium as big as a house, even the equipment truck makes Pimp My Ride look envious.

If, when that time comes, there is not an obvious homey, natural voice of Alabama Football (much like muncy WAS the sound of Georgia Football), I think they will do the proverbial "nation-wide search" looking for someone who is honestly really good. That person, we likely will not have heard of because they are on another team's radio network...so we don't care.;)

Chris would be a very good choice as an eventual replacement if or when the time came for Eli to move away from the mic. As LBS stated though, Eli is a young pup when it comes to the business when compared to the likes of Mel Allen, Muncy, and numerous others.

I only wish it would happen right now. If Chris does even half as good in football as he does in basketball, he'll be better than Eli.

As for Savage? Meh.

Roger Shultz should have got the color job.

I was a big fan of Kenny, but Phil Savage has doone a credible job.

I'm not an Eli fan because of his perrenial problems with down and distance, though I will concede that he has a voice that I've become used to.

If Paul Kennedy would come back, I'd like to see him replace Eli when that time comes.

I would like to see Eli stick around. I've heard all the complaints about him, but I've never had issues with him. They say he doesnt "paint the picture" on every play. But when I was in the Army I could listen to him and Snake on Yahoo Sports for free. It was the only way I could "see" Bama games. I always enjoyed their coverage and the banter between the two of them.

I actually just listened to the BCSCG radio broadcast two days ago. He did a great job. My favorite line is the one where he thanks Alabama because now he can cross one off his bucket list. Seeing Alabama win in the Rose Bowl.

As for Chris Stewart, I've never liked his coverage of pay per view football with Tyler Watts. Basketball is a different story, he does okay with it.

I liked Kennedy as well. I think Stewart does an excellent job with the basketball and the baseball as well. He made a comment on the radio Saturday before the game against Florida about how difficult it was to do tv as opposed to radio. He said that you have to get the "color man" involved more and that it is just easier to do radio. That could the issue that some might have with Stewart doing the pay per view games.

I was a Paul Kennedy fan when he replaced Forney. I think Eli has done a better than average job with the PBP. Chris Stewart would do a nice job on radio and is a bama homer which is important as far as I'm concerned. Another homer that would do a great job, I think, is Jim Dunaway.

Out side of Chris & Tyler.....is it just me or does all of our PPV coverage blow harder than a Cambodian LEAVEBLOWER with a $20 bill and a bottle of rice wine?
The whole production is crap. the video looks like it was shot on a home video camera, there are never enough camera angles and it's overall prodcution looks like it was produced but a high school drama teacher! Thankfully we don't have too many of those anymore. I think even most of our OOC games will be televised this year.

With all the money the program generates....they could really throw some money into beefing up the prodcution on those things.

I think Savage is doing ok. He's no snake but he'll do.
And unlike some fans i can live with Eli. As a matter of preferance, good or bad, i would rather listen to some one on our side call the game rather than say todd blackridge, or someone like that. So i ALWAYS have the radio on for the game. Cause weather they do or not, our guys at least act they they care about our team. And as a fan that's what matters to me.
The radio is only background anyway. cause you can bet yer crimson ass that if we're playing i'm either @ BDS or in front of a tv somewhere.

When we beat the dog snot out of the hogs 2 years ago, i was omw back from delivering a load of rock to Mobile when the game came on. when i saw i wouldn't make i.....i doped the hammer to get to the Yellow Hammer truck stop on 65 so i could catch the game on tv. lol Turned the company radio off and sat thier for the whole game. (was off duty and OMW home anyway)

There is a section of fans that just do not like Eli, which I dont understand. I love Eli and he's one of the best play-by-play men in the game. I hope Eli stays for many years to come.

I absolutely hate it on PPV, like u said the video AND the audio is beyond horrible. Tyler Watts is a horrendous commentator too. Cannot stand it when he's making the call.

Roger Shultz would indeed be a great color guy, filling that Muncy "one of us/uniquely Bama" flavor.

Paul Kennedy is sill in broadcasting here in the Tampa area, I believe with the Tampa Bay Lightning organization. Although solid, he strikes me as unremarkable, no passion, the braodcasting equivelant of elevator music.

I have listened to Chris Stewart alot over the last couple of years, and he ususally does a very good job. However I am one of the few that listens to most of the baseball games and this year he has went down hill. I can't count the number of times he makes a call and then has to change it, instead of waiting until the play is made and then telling you what happened. Something like "that ball is way out of here.....oh wait a minute is was a great catch on the warning track" and things like that really get old especially if it happens 3 or 4 times a game. On the other hand he has some great quotes...like when we got beat the other day by the score of 20 to 15 he said something along the lines of "our bullpin" is coming apart like a 3 dollar piece of luggage." Just wish he would wait a little to get the call right.

I enjoyed the John Forney-Doug Layton broadcast team. I like Eli and Snake okay, but since we don't get a lot of Bama football on radio down here in LSU country, I'm not as familiar with them as Forney-Layton. Am not famiiar with Stewart, either.
