The U. S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has released their early Indoor Track rankings, and the SEC has three teams in the top five (Arkansas, Florida, and Texas A and M at fifth). Alabama ranks 24[SUP]th[/SUP]. The scoring system is odd considering Arizona is ranked 17[SUP]th[/SUP] after finishing sixth last year and returning two national champs that could conceivably tally 40 points between them. Could the addition of Tony Brown tilt the rankings in Bama’s favor? He sure can’t hurt their chances. This season leading into next should be interesting, especially if the Tide can land Marlon Humphrey.

Chief, you are much better versed on track and field than I am. I know that Grant Hill was quite a good shot and discus man in high school. Was his high school skill level good enough for him to help our track and field program at this level? I know he is engaged in a battle for a starting OL position. Just wanted to know what you think.

His pr looks like 203 feet in the disc. I've seen 200 feet done once in high school in person in the last thirty years. Jaques Smith who went to UT was doing 190 or so.

Grant has a pr of 5:26 in the 1600 (almost the mile) which surprises the hell out of me. Grant must be some sort of athlete!

That athleticism must be why he was able to get significant PT on the OL as a true freshman, even though he did not enroll early.
