🏈 contract extension for mack brown

guess the scuttlebutt was wrong about him (at least this year) $5m+ a year to underachieve like he has the last few years is almost comical, but then again Texas still out profits every school in the nation by leaps and bounds. I'd imagine having 9 consecutive 10+ wins seasons gets you some get outta jail cards that you can use for two ugly seasons (even though recruiting has been stellar).

Of course, this could be the kiss of death too, where coaches get an approval rating from their AD or a contract extension, only to find out the following year they are w/o a job.

More revenue than Bama by about 25MM. More expenses than Bama by the same tune. 13K more students as well.

Profit?

The last report from Texas was a profit of 24.3MM with some change...Bama came in at just over 31MM.

I just read this a few days ago, the latest Forbes top, published 12/22/11 > http://www.forbes.com/sites/chrissmith/2011/12/22/college-footballs-most-valuable-teams/

another view > http://www.forbes.com/special-report/2011/college-football-11_land.html

according to this article, which I believe is football only - pretty significant difference.

Texas $71m profit
Bama $45m profit

overall athletics numbers here for 2010-2011

another article about how much Texas makes from October, talks about how they "crunch/display the numbers" >

I know I've posted before about how Texas A&M financials will fit into the SEC, thought this was an interesting comment. I know Texas A&M can generate alot of cash quickly, they could easily be on the same level with Texas with the right person at the helm.

By contrast, average SEC revenue falls $3.8 million, or 4.3%, when you factor in the addition of Texas A&M and Missouri. Neither school is a revenue powerhouse, and in the SEC they would rank No. 10 and 11 out of 14 teams. Mike Slive really needs to have some magic up his sleeve if this expansion is going to be a big revenue booster. Expanding to 14 teams doesn’t get you much unless it cracks open those CBS and ESPN contracts. High-risk investment for unknown reward.

Mac's extension done supposedly to counter the "he is retiring" recruiting pitches by their rivals. A couple of more seasons like these last two and it might be Texas ffans starting those rumors.
