With less than a week before the unveiling of the first College Football Playoff rankings, Conference USA hired a public relations firm to help assist Marshall, one of four undefeated FBS football teams in the country, with its effort to earn a spot in the playoff.

On behalf of Marshall and Conference USA, Brener Zwikel & Associates, a Los Angeles area firm, sent out a release detailing the Thundering Herd’s accomplishments thus far this season.

The release offers a bevy of statistics about Marshall’s scoring offense and senior quarterbackRakeem Cato, and even a brief history of the program.

Ranked 23rd in the country, Marshall leads all FBS programs with a 30.8 points per game margin of victory and has a pretty strong chance of going undefeated this season.

Even if Marshall does go undefeated, we all know it has no shot to reach the College Football Playoff. Just look at its schedule. The combined record of the seven teams the Thundering Herd has played this season is just 20-33 and only one team left on its schedule – 4-3 UAB – has a winning record.

We appreciate the effort, Marshall, but it’s probably not going to happen.

Marshall is very close to where I live and the local news stations reported this yesterday. Marshall should finish the year undefeated but I do not see any way they can make the 4 team playoff. There are too many quality teams that should be considered with 1 loss maybe even 2 b4 Marshall, simply bc of the competition level.

What a waste of time and their money. Yes, they are undefeated but to whom?

Miami of Ohio who only has 1 win
Rhode Island who has ZERO wins
Ohio U is 4 and 4
Akron is 4 and 3, so far a winning season
Old Dominion is 3 and 4
Middle Tenn. Also a winning record at 5 and 3
FIU is 3 and 5

Not a very good resume in my humble opinion. They could have the bear himself arguing for them and it still wouldn't matter. If they go undefeated they deserve some recognition but not a chance to play for the trophy. If they had to play an Alabama or a Stanford, it would be a massacre. They might get a lick in but it would be like a gnat worrying an Elephant, just not fun to watch.
