šŸ“” Conference-only Sporting Events in the Big10 This Fall (maybe?)

MAC athletic budgets just took a hit.

MAC? How about CUSA and other non powere 5....
If they get a few games in on tv...for powere 5 at least there will be some revenue stream.... got to be the thinking on "only within conference games"...
Keep limited money within....

And putting advertising in lower seating areas... to maximize for tv exposure...
And make up for some of the lost revenue ....

Only way we'll ever get to 9 conference games.
I've held hope the silver lining in all of this is autonomy for the P5 schools.

Consider this. Now, we're hearing media members talk about the lack of a central decision maker. A singular person who could oversee the decisions on a broad scale; covering all five conferences.

Now, remember a few years ago when a certain head coach we are familiar with mentioned the need for the NCAA to have a commissioner type individual?

I am also.... just ask @TerryP ...lol

"... By limiting competition to other Big Ten institutions, the Conference will have the greatest flexibility to adjust its own operations throughout the season and make quick decisions in real-time based on the most current evolving medical advice and the fluid nature of the pandemic."

Are they attempting to get out of paying the OOC guarantees?

Perhaps Ohio State didn't want to play Oregon this year or Michigan didn't want to play Washington. Too bad neither of these games will happen.

I see how this helps the conference be more nimble if they need to adjust. NCAA should have led this in my opinion.

That's been the mantra of the B1G for how long? It's my opinion that's why they were the first to make this step.

If Sankey wants to show me that he can play chess while everyone else plays checkers for once, he should broker an agreement with the ACC and Big 12 to form an agreement for cross conference scheduling for OOC games. Try to make it as fair as possible for each team, but imagine Alabama playing TCU (in Dallas), Baylor, @ Va Tech, and Boston College for their non-conference games. Keep the normal rivals in place like USCe/Clemson and Georgia/Ga Tech. auburn would still open with North Carolina, for example. In the end, still have the conference Championship games and a playoff within the 3 conferences. Who wins the trophy will have a big *, unless it's Alabama of course, then I'll act like its perfectly legitimate since they would have won it all anyway.

It would require a lot of moving things around and a ton of planning in a short period of time, but if stadiums full of fans aren't going to be an issue, it makes that part easier to deal with.

I do not think Sankey has the political clout or influence to make this kind of thing happen. Mike Slive probably could have.

Let's hope this is not what eventually takes the GOAT away from Bama.

This was my thought when I made the comment that they're really pulling out all the stops to win a Natty.

Is this what makes the NCAA take power away from the individual conferences? The answer to complaints about things like Rutgers travel for conference vs non-conference games is that the conference wants to have control over testing, practice rules, distancing rules for stadiums, etc so distance means nothing. Were the NCAA to actually have the power to do those things maybe we would have a season. Or at least arguments for not having it would have less bite.

Listening to Marty & McGhee, I guess they interviewed Sankey seemed like he made some comment about high risk of not having a season. I did not hear the interview but that is what they have been talking about. Hard to imagine this but seemingly more and more likely. Hard to get my head around this from a fan standpoint but mind boggling when I think of he economic impact of this.
