šŸˆ Come on Sark ... enough with the poaching already!!!

I’m so thankful Coach Saban brought Sark in as his OC and I’m very appreciative of the masterful job he did both years. That being said, he absolutely knows Coach Saban didn’t appreciate it when a couple of his previous coordinators left to become HC’s and poached his coaching staff. CS has talked about it on numerous occasions so I assumed Sark would be so grateful for having had his career resurrected that he wouldn’t do that to the man responsible for having resurrected his career. Of course, it turns out my assumption was flat out wrong. I know this is a business but even in business an appreciation of and respect for the people who helped you advance should matter. It’s a symptom of the times I suppose ... honor means little and gratitude means even less. Anyone who thinks this doesn’t matter to Coach Saban or that he expected it and it’s no big deal are wrong. Talk to anyone who’s close to him about Smart’s poaching both coaches and high school prospects and they’ll tell you it not only hurt him it also royally pissed him off. Taking Flood and now Banks, who’s a tremendous recruiter, will just mean more work for Coach Saban. He’s a young 69 ... but he’s still 69. It sure would have been nice for him had Sark honored him by not poaching his coaches.

Saw this on the rant about Banks...

Sounds good, but what is TW saying? Any new nuggets?

From talking to some sources everyone on the coaching staff expected Banks to stay. At some point last night (or this am) he told Saban he was leaving and Saban told the rest of the staff this morning. Saban wasn't happy with this move. That isn't surprising. This was done pretty discreetly which also isn't surprising.

Saban is close to officially naming his OC I'm told. Have not confirmed Stoutland yet but am told Saban is moving along with that hire quickly. Lot of good options.

We will let you know if we get more.

and this as well

From Chip Brown on the Texas 247 site (insert Chip Brown jokes here)

quote:
I heard Thursday the key to Golding being named the defensive coordinator at Texas would be Saban’s ability to hire Dan Lanning away from Georgia to replace Golding as Alabama's defensive coordinator.

If that happens, watch for Will Muschamp to join his good friend Kirby Smart as defensive coordinator at Georgia - Muschamp’s alma mater and also where Muschamp's oldest son, Jackson, is a walk-on football player.

Eh, the way I see it, if it wasn't Sark giving them an attractive opportunity it would be someone else.

I also think that Sark & Saban have a fantastic relationship, and there has to be some bit of blessing for these guys to pursue opportunities with him... Particularly if it's a "promotion"... All head coaches should want their assistants to pursue those.

Nothing is stopping CNS from giving these assistants that are being poached more $ or a bigger/better title... if he wanted to keep them, he could find a way. JMO

Jeff Banks is a tough loss, he has had his ups and downs as a coach but he's always been rock solid as a recruiter and that will hurt more than anything. Let's hope we get some solid replacements, I have complete faith in CNS to steer the ship

I don't blame CSS from dipping into the coaching pool at Bama. We have and will continue to lose coach's to other schools on a yearly basis because we are successful. The days of staying with a program or a coach for a long period of time are few and far between. There are a few coach's that do this but not very many. Do I hate to see them go? Sure do, but I don't hold a grudge against them.

all true....but it also brings new blood and new energy....and new approach....
The recruiting could take ahit....because of relationships with HS coaches....
But again....they are recruiting for Bama and NS....thats the constant....everything else is periphery...

With Saban/Bama recruiting impacts of losing a coach are the least of my worries. Was Banks a great recruiter or did Saban/Bama make him a great recruiter? His recruiting for Bama and the product that we have to sell helped his recruiting prowess.

To me the continuity and relationships between the players and coaches are bigger hits but these other coaches will establish that as well over time. Pretty sure the players trust the man running the show to make the right choices and decisions for what is best for the program and the player. Can he stub his toe and make a mistake? Sure but he will also recognize it and fix it.

Continuity of both OC/DC is more challenging but not something Saban hasn't handled in the past.
