A true national championship is never going to be perfect until it is settled on the field. I pray every year multiple teams finish undefeated so it makes their stupid BCS look dumb. By the way NCAA, please stop favoring Notre Dame and make them join a conference. If they are allowed to float around why can't everyone.
90% of every sport has a playoff system. That fact alone is enough to make me think they have a reason they won't allow a true playoff. Here is why I think we don't have a playoff: It is because NCAA thinks that southern teams have better, more determined athletes and will win the national championship almost every year.
If you look how difficult it is for a team from the SEC to win it and yet we still seem to have a team win the NC on a consistent basis must scare the crap out of other conferences. Just think if the SEC didn't have a conference championship game. It seems to be one more chance for us to beat up ourselves without other teams having to face us.
And isn't ironic that the two conference that fight playoffs the most, the Pac-10 and Big-10, doesn't have a conference championship? ...Ohio state has flat embarrassed the big 10 the past few national championship games. And I'm sorry but considering USC basically has a semi-pro team, a pretty easy schedule, and no conference champioship, they should be there every year.
I wish every team that finishes undefeated and doesn't get a chance to play for the NC sues like Utah did last year. That will start getting some action.
Anyway, to get off my soapbox, I sure wish we had playoffs for college football.
