Pretty clear the push back based on comments. Creating another award to segregate defense from the offense just waters it down. There are already 2 defensive awards - Nagurski & Bednarik.

A MLB that makes all the defensive alignment calls impacts every snap.

One could also argue that a lock down corner capable of shutting down the opposing offenses best player for the entire game impacts every snap said opposing offense takes.



I'm not understanding the pushback on this idea. Shirly everyone can see that an offensive player winning the most prestigious award in CFB every year is flawed.

On the flip side. It's seldom you'll find a defensive player that impacts an entire season like one on offense will. Sure, you'll have a few games with some of the better ones. Tyrann is a great example. Suh had a couple he changed.

Then you look at a guy like Henry where you can point to what, a half of a dozen games where he was the difference?
