🏈 College Football HOF...Derrick Thomas is in

:hurray::dance::hyper::rtrsign::bigaldance::agree: it about time. If miss another year I was about to hire Brandon Van de Graaff and his brother to take them all out.:flaming:

The wait is over for Derrick Thomas. The former Alabama linebacker will be inducted posthumously into the College Football Hall of Fame this year, sources told ESPN.com on Wednesday.

It’s about time.

Thomas is remembered as one of the most dominant pass-rushers in SEC and college football history. During his senior season, he had a school record 27 sacks, earned unanimous first-team All-American, was named the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Year and won the Butkus Award. No. 1 NFL draft pick Jadeveon Clowney, by comparison, didn't have as many sacks in his entire career at South Carolina as Thomas did in 1988 alone.

The Crimson Tide legend finished his career as the school leader in sacks (52) and tackles for loss (68), two marks that still stand today. He’ll become the 24th former Alabama player or coach in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Thomas died at the age of 33 in 2000 following an automobile accident that left him paralyzed. In 2009, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after 11 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and nine pro bowls.

The 2014 College Football Hall of Fame class, headlined by Thomas, will include 14 players and two coaches. They will be inducted Dec. 9 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

He almost cost Bama a victory over Ohio St it was the Kickoff Classic. Anyone remember this game? "Ohio State last hopes ended without a score at the Crimson Tide's 18-yard line even after they got 2 extra plays with no time left when Alabama's LB Derrick Thomas was called for pass interference on successive plays." If I remember right this was the first year that interference wasn't a sport foul. Bama won the game 16-10

It show me how he grew as a players. Senior year he had 27 sacks and won the Butkus award. He had 52 sacks totals at Alabama I think is still the record? You know everybody has a bad game one time or another.

Apparently he wasn't even nominated for consideration til 2011.

Just read this on ESPN that Alabama didn't nominate him. That seems strange to me...if so, someone dropped the ball on this one. Betcha someone within the Athletic Department is scrambling to get a response to this.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame elected Thomas as a member in 2009, yet college football had not honored him. The reason is simple: Alabama didn't nominate him for membership until 2011.

According to the CFHOF website...
Nominations may be made by any dues-paying member of the National Football Foundation, or by athletic directors, coaches, or CoSIDA members representing dues-paying colleges or universities.
