From coach Saban's presser:

quote:

ā€œWhat I say next is: Through the years, I’ve been an advocate of playing all Power 5 conference schools, playing more conference games. I know it’s a more difficult schedule but I think it would be better for the fans, it would be better for … in the playoffs right now, if you want to talk about that, that system is if you lose a game, you’re on thin ice. If you lose two, it’s almost impossible. I think if we played more like the NFL — the New York Giants won the Super Bowl a few years ago and lost six games. You play quality opponents every week and probably end up losing more games, but I think at the end of the day it would be more competitive for everyone involved relative to the fans and players and the selection committee and all the things that go into it.ā€

Coach Saban doesn't have any fear of attrition, nor seems to be the least bit intimidated by wins and losses as far as getting into the playoffs. He thinks the fans would enjoy the season more to get to play all OOC games against power 5 teams in a home and home series.

Personally, I loved going to State College a few years ago and wouldn't it be cool to play at the Big House, the Horseshoe, Autzen Stadium, the Coliseum, and many more. Be just as cool to have these guys show up at Bryant-Denny on a Saturday afternoon or evening.

been wanting this for a while.

do this, and keep winning, and no one would have cause to talk shit about who we play and/or how we got to the top (if/when it happens). obviously there would still be those that do, but at least we'd know it wan't because we played some lower-tier team and ran over them to get to where we want to be.

keep our season-opening games the way they are now (or at least have been for the past few years). trade one of the lower-tier teams for an in-conference opponent (rotating cross-divisional team), then remove the other lower-tier team for another p5 team.

it obviously sounds simple enough, but the logistics of making it happen are a bit more complicated. and i'm glad i don't have to think about how to make all that work out and come to fruition.

I'll be honest, as a guy that rents his home in Tuscaloosa for gameday weekends, I would love this. A lot of money to be made, and taxes being collected by the city, it's a win win for us. Now, the players will have to deal with the SEC grind of more games, but I see us getting players hurt against D-1AA teams all the time, so there may not be a difference there. Plus, I like the idea of all the players getting to play every SEC team if they stay four years like Coach Saban has said in the past. An experience they'll never forget.

Would like to see us play a round robin of other conferences. Play tougher teams. Nobody wins when we play a cupcake. They are dangerous because we can't gain anything by beating them and they can cause injuries that hurt. Even if they happen to beat us like (ULM) did in Sabans first year, nothing good came out of that win for them other than bragging.
