🏈 Coach McElwain

As you may have come to expect, a few thoughts and notes here.

First of all, and this is what I consider of utmost importance, why do you have a picture of Lance in your profile? :lance:

As to the subject of this thread. I'm sure Coach Mac would have eventually done the same, but it should be of note that the school seems to be the PTB that expelled them. I'm sure Mac, and his AD, had a lot to say.

NOW, here's what struck me as interesting.

Players get in a fight. It's not allowed at CSU according to their AD so they are kicked. We've got kids found with steroids and drug paraphernalia.

I can't help but think about the story lines less than a year ago involving LSU.

Right, Terry. Les handled it by making one of the brawlers his starting quarterback. Go figger.

Hmm, I didn't think Jordan became a stater til after the Bama game - up until then, Lee was the starter.

why is that the victim being a marine causes people to get more bent outta shape over this incident. I've met many a marines that needed their butts whooped.

As far as Colorado State - one of the players is a ex-Texas' players brother Orakpo.

I'm sure that's true. It's easy to assume those that are the most upset with the "Marine" aspect are upset because they think of members of the Corps who are dying daily in the war.

Add to that it was just one Marine versus a few football players and those descriptions/accounts of the Marine getting kicked in the head.

bar fights can get outta hand quickly is kinda how I looked at this - especially when you are in your early 20's - and especially in south Louisiana - (I've been in some really crazy bar fights in Slidell while I was in the military).

Financially, I've been involved in two bars over the last five years. The last one less than a few hundred yards from the Naval Weapons Station in SC. When we took that over, it was mainly a biker bar...so, as we "changed the clientèle" I saw my share of stupid altercations. It can get crazy, and majority of the time is because of some stupid misunderstanding. Hell, I've laid out a person on occasion for stupid actions.

Here, when military is involved, it is looked on in a different light. But, that has to be taken into context considering the large presence of military here—all five branches—and you couldn't throw a rock around these parts without hitting someone with military experience.

It's the not same scenario...but, I do think to two can be compared in some degrees.

Jefferson served a 4-game suspension and was named the starter after the 9-6 win over Bama. I only meant that Jefferson became the starter even though Lee had played well and had led the Tigers to a 9-0 record. Many have said that Lee got 'em to where they were and deserved to keep his starting job, especially since JJ was involved in (and under investigation for) the bar fight. JJ's participation in the fight, in my mind, should have kept him as Lee's backup, especially in light of how well Lee had played up to the Bama game.

Things have really changed. If Joe Namath had gotten involved in a bar fight when he was at Alabama, Coach Bryant would have benched him. Players didn't go to bars back then, at least not during the season.
