🏈 CNS on the receivers from last season.

Wow, would never expect Coach to put it out there like that. He ain't wrong, but it makes you wonder if feelings are now hurt and if guys will move on. Not that I'm worried, but you rarely actually hear hard truths anymore, so while refreshing, also surprising.

I guess we will learn after spring drills if Nick hurt their feelings or whether they accepted the challenge. JMO but I don't believe he cares if some in that room move on.

More will transfer after spring. On the video, it's the same stuff we said headed into the postseason... I think Saban had even said it or hinted at it publicly. I know he was pissed earlier in the year about the younger guys not taking their roles on special teams seriously which caused more upperclassmen to have to play more snaps on coverage and return units. It was an issue that wasn't just limited to the WR's.

Saban rarely says anything publicly he doesn’t want to get back to his team. If he hadn’t wanted them to hear it he would have never said it in that forum. So, I think he wanted the “hard truth” to either motivate the receivers to work harder or to move on down the line. I did find it interesting he put the blame for the loss on the DB injuries and not on the receiver injuries too.

I think he is trying to find the people that will do things the right way. Not pandering to their feelings because feelings come and go. Most programs codle these guys and when the chips are down they fail. Pretty sure this is his "we are going to win with our w/o you" speech so do the right things or he will find someone that will. Those that accept the challenge will be better and make the team better, those that do not will move on. Better to find out now who that is.

This is not shaping up well for other teams. We are going to be a monster next year. Whoever is on this team come fall is going to be on a rail toward domination. He's not leaving any room, and I'm loving the challenge he's giving the team.

On the flip side - and it's always there - is that a little bit of me is wondering if he's putting all of his cards on the table for this season...could it be his last?

Nah you are just seeing the GOAT do what the GOAT does to make things right again. He has not accomplished what he has accomplished w/o the an unquenchable competitive drive. Time to put some people back in their place (looking at you Jimbo and Smart).

When you said more will transfer after spring, is it because of how they handled things and Saban told them it's best if they move on?

I know this has been beat to death on here, but bears repeating. One of the few gripes I have about Saban is how little he plays the back ups.

I know there was a lot of close games this year as opposed to previous years, but I feel there have been opportunities over the years to get younger players some playing time.

Granted I don't make 10 million a year to make those decisions, but if these guys got in a little sooner and got to play. Really run the offense, back up QB and receivers get to run the playbook, not just hand off the ball and block for the RB, I think that could keep them motivated.

I think with NIL, transfer portal and the continued pandering to these athletes this issue will only get worse and degrade CFB as we know it.

I think each case is a bit different... but some of the guys that left already would certainly fit into that basket. The ones who are sticking around for spring practice, I believe, are guys that have an opportunity to stay (if they want). There were some that were talked into staying through spring, but afterwards, a small few/couple are still expected to still leave. And keep in mind, a couple can transfer in and be added as well.

Just my two cents here... It seems CNS is very particular about who practices well & those who don't. It always shows up in game day when guys don't practice well. Almost always. So he just isn't going to let guys play much at all if they can't be consistently good in practice. I think that's why we have so many guys transfer out that were supposed to be monster players. Well, turns out they don't practice well.

Had those #2's taken practice more seriously for the entire season, they may have been better prepared for making big time plays like Smitty did in 2017 as a true freshmen. It just blows my mind how many true freshman made significant impacts in the 2017 NC game. Turns out those guys practiced well ALL season long.

NIL: Question, any evidence to suggest that this issue will get worse and degrade CFB as a whole? I know we've heard coaches complaining about it and how if they don't get NIL under control, it will get real bad. I want to point out that I do agree with you on NIL.

Transfer portal- I don't think It'll be a huge issue as many made it out to be. I think it'll be few years before the transfer market will correct itself and there will be some new rules that will control it a little bit.

Continued Pandering- Interesting you said that. Who does that? Dabo? Kirby? Saban? Sark? It hink there are some school whos been doing that for a while before the NIL and transfer portal: Texas, USC, Georgia, Arizona St, While Oregon, Alabama, etc have strict rules in place... SO I'm just saying.

I 1000% agree with you here. I also want to point out that doing everything in practice doesn't always translate to the field, as going live between the lines is much different than in practice. I say that because maybe these guys could have been ready for the Natty if they had seen more playing time and nerves weren't an issue. I do believe practice makes perfect, but I also understand when you're under the lights you can go blank and freeze. You want them comfortable, and that's hard to get sitting on the sideline every week. Bad attitude, run their asses, make them puke at workouts, but I don't see trash time against Mississippi Valley State A&T as rewarding them more than actually watching your own backside if their talents are ever needed during a meaningful game. This does fall on Saban as well as the athletes themselves.

If I remember correctly, did we have bunch of players on the team over the years who doesn't always practice well, but perform well when the game starts?

It's already rearing its ugly head in College Station. EVERYONE now knows Texas A&M paid for recruits. Everyone. Once normalcy kicks in and coaches aren't kissing your ass, you really learn about classes, school, nightlife, the town yadda yadda, you will have guys that don't like it as much when the money isn't new and fresh, you'll have some get home sick, some that won't like sitting, and some that just won't be good enough, but all of the spiraling was made possible due to NIL. I didn't even bring up coaches poaching guys from other schools like Riley did with Caleb Williams. You don't think that was one of his first conversations after taking the USC job? He sold him on NIL in Los Angeles. Now he's sponsored by Beats by Dre and a luxury real estate firm in Beverly Hills. Unreal what they could possibly gain with Caleb Williams as a spokesman that they weren't creating themselves with their properties and the Beverly Hills name. It'll take a couple of years to see the natural affects of it, but it won't be good. Money ruins everything.
