Clemson must be feeling pretty good about their victory over LSU in last yearās Chick-fil-A Bowl.
The Tigersā star wide receiver Sammy Watkins says heās not worried about SEC foes Georgia or South Carolina, and he thinks Clemson should ābeat the messā out of Georgia via Tigers Now.
āBehind the scenes we like our schedule,ā he said. āPeople talk about Georgia, Florida State and South Carolina, but Iām not worried about them, Iām concentrated on what we do.
āIf we come out and beat Georgia, not just beat āem but beat the mess out of āem like we should, I donāt see no problems in getting started in the right direction. I donāt have disrespect for them or for nobody else, I just believe we can be just the kind of team we want to be, the talent is here, we know how to win.ā
Watkins evidently doesnāt think too highly of Georgia and must be licking his chops anticipating competing against Georgiaās inexperienced defense, which replaces eight starters and will be without up-and-coming safety Josh Harvey-Clemons.
Watkins is a big-time receiver and had a big freshman season. Heās combined for 1,933 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns in two years, but he says heās past his sophomore slump that saw a two-game suspension and only 708 receiving yards.
But if he thinks Georgiaās defense is just going to lie down in a big-time game, heās wrong. The Bulldogs are in the national championship hunt, as are the Tigers. Thereās talent all over the youthful defense, and Georgia is very capable of scoring 45-plus points against any ACC defense.
This bout should be a classic shootout, with both offenses firing on all cylinders. Georgia returns virtually everyone on an offense that averaged over 467 yards and 37.8 points per game. Clemsonās offense averaged over 512 yards and scored 41 points per game, and they return Heisman candidate quarterback Tajh Boyd.
Clemson replaces three starters in the secondary, including both corners. Do you think Aaron Murray is slobbering with anticipation, too? Of course he is, but heās not dishing out any locker room material over the summer.
Georgia is due for a big opening week win against a ranked opponent. Remember the last time someone trash talked Georgia?
