It Takes Eleven

Quoth the Raven...

In an article today, the Wall Street Journal took about six minutes of excerpts from this video of Clarence Thomas being interviewed at an event at the Library of Congress. The link to the full interview is below, is a little shy of an hour, and it's from 2018, but it provides great insight to the man and his raising in Georgia. His autobiography, My Grandfather's Son, is a really good read. His hardscrabble upbringing, and the simple but brilliant perspective of his grandfather, made him the man he is today.

On the other side of the political and, at that time, economic spectrum, was Jimmy Carter's upbringing as a landowner's son on a fully sufficient farm near Plains, GA. Despite their divergence of political views, Jimmy Carter's An Hour Before Daylight is another classic of Southern upbringing. It's probably one of the best books I've read. If you thrown in Rick Bragg's All Over But the Shouting, you have most of my redneck DNA among those three titles.

RTR,

Tim
