🏈 Chris Black Transferring?

He was many people's breakout player and the one that everyone expected to step in for Cooper and make huge contributions. It's easy to say after the fact he's not considered a big name, but he was considered an impact player and a guy everyone was waiting on this year. There are more coming.

I thinkI had him as a breakout player in that thread way back in the summer. I have always had high hopes for this kid since he signed, but with all the injuries he's battled, he's been lost in the shuffle too often.

Like someone else posted, whom will he supplant next year? Isn't Cavin Ridley supposed to be a slot receiver, too?

Best of luck to him. If he lands at Jawja, he could make a slight impact in their offense and give Kirby a bit of a boost.

Reminds me of Dee Hart and BJ Scott. Yes, all different circumstances... But the 3 came in very highly touted with tons of potential and injuries along with maybe other contributing factors got them behind and hindered their reaching their potential. All 3 ended up transferring out. There's been others, but these 3 remind me of each other.

Changing the subject:

Tyler Love, a 5* recruit on the offensive line spent most of this time at UA injured. Neck, back, you name it ... the boy got banged up when he was putting on his cleats. Love is charatercized as a "bust" in recruiting.

Chris Black, another very highly ranked recruit, spent most of his time at UA injured. But, Black isn't considered a bust?

Wherein lies the difference?

Excellent point!

I would think Cam Sims over Tony Brown..........With Cyrus Jones, Matias-Smith, and Washington graduating.....I could see Brown moving around and finding a spot, somewhere in the secondary.

@TerryP interesting point on the difference between Love and Sims........You are right, I remember Love coming out of Mt Brook being just what we needed to shore up the OL. I don't ever remember the kid playing. Similar to Hoke the TE out of Mt. Brook. Same thing. On a side note, Hoke didn't play his senior year, but was still on the field for Sr day and got a football and was recognized as playing a vital role in the Sr class.

I thought that was awesome for the staff to recognize him publicly like that.

Anyone else think Tony Brown may also transfer? I have no info, just a gut feeling.

With the losses on defenses after this season, maybe he finds a role... but something tells me he just doesn't have the mentality to play for Saban. Hope I'm wrong, I just get that vibe of a kid not wanting to deal with getting yelled at constantly while not really having a role on defense.

A lot more talent in the mix at UA in Black's career.... Much tougher overcoming injuries when Saban is recruiting guys like Cooper/Ridley/Stewart. JMO

I put it in the other thread that I could easily see Tony Brown leaving. Gut feeling on my part as well.

He seems to be in Saban's dog house for much of his time here, even got screamed at on Saturday.

I guess it comes down to if he's in our top 3 CB rotation next year. If he can either slide in for Cyurs, or if Minkah does than can slide in at Star, I would assume he might stay. But if he's in the doghouse and Mo Smith is ahead of him, then I think he's gone.

We also have Kendell Sheffield waiting in the wings. He is super talented. If TB leaves, Sheffield may get a look in the rotation as a RS freshman.
