TUSCALOOSA - Teammates rave about Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy's leadership ability, particularly his way of taking command in a huddle.

On Monday, McElroy provided a glimpse of what goes on in the huddle when things aren't going so well in a game.

He talked about the wind making things difficult for the Crimson Tide to throw in the first quarter of a 38-20 victory at Kentucky.

"It just took a little of the fire out," McElroy said.

The Tide led 7-6 when it got the ball near its own goal line with roughly seven minutes left in the first half. Trent Richardson had just been stopped barely across the goal line for a 2-yard loss on a first-and-10 play from Alabama's 3-yard line.

"We were in our own end zone," McElroy said. "They were reviewing whether the play was a safety or not. I had to use some choice words to get those guys going.

"There was just a lull in the first quarter and the start of the second quarter. Guys were just kind of in a daze. People weren't even sweating, it seemed like. There was no sense of urgency.

"So I got on them a little there right before that long drive. I think that helped a lot. We just needed to wake up."

Alabama marched 99 yards for a touchdown with 40 seconds left in the half. Only 19 seconds later, the Tide scored again on a fumble return to take a 21-6 lead.

Nice.

I think it was a solid effort getting out of the end zone, avoiding the safety.

It was as if he leaped to get his feet out of the end zone, right before he got hit.

I'm pretty sure it was Ingram.

But thanks to that play, even though it was a 2 yard loss, we were able to drive 99 yards for a touchdown.

Roll Tide.

no, it was Richardson. but two weeks in a row 99 yard TD drives, def. a good thing.
