šŸˆ Charlie Strong turns down Tennessee

A little gun shy perhaps?

I'm missing the pun/joke here...long night.

Seriously, the former AD Mike Hamilton made some horrible decisions with a lot of sports at UT. Ironically, he's still one of the ones getting paid from his buyout.

Don't get me wrong on one thing. I thought it was time from Fulmer to go if that decision was mine and I had a vested interest in seeing UT succeed. His record since their BCSNC did have an appearance in the SECCG. However, it was no better than what Mark Richt has been doing at UGA. The last year he was there he'd won about .300 percent of his games facing top 25 teams.

Just as one example of how bad Hamilton was in his decisions. Sumlin was one of the finalist for the UT job when he hired Kiffin. Granted, no head coaching experience—in title. Versus Kiffin who had no proven head coaching ability.

There's Pearl and the free reign he gave him with the men's basketball program leading to the NCAA's involvement. The baseball coach—still getting paid—and the problems he brought.

I sure hate that Tennesee is struggling, makes me sad.

I just sit back and wonder if we are going to see them go after Patrino or maybe even Jim Tressel. Otherwise, they are going to have to "settle" for lesser named coach.

Tressell has four years left on a five year show cause penalty from the NCAA. In the time frame they have I don't see any possibility of that happening.

If the decision is indeed left up to Hart, Petrino isn't getting a glance.

If Haslam, Anderson, and a few others start really exercising the power their pocket books over the BOT? That might lead to forcing Hart to take a back seat. And if that happens, there is no telling what might happen on the coaching hire. But, I'd watch for them to be looking for a new AD this spring.

I forgot about the show cause for Tressel. I don't see anybody left that they can hire that will be the "big splash" that a school of their caliber would want. With the exception of the penalites we had, it reminds me of the post Mike DuBose years when we struggled to get a "big name" coach.

As a fellow loather of all things orange (minus my Kubota tractor), I must chime in and say that it's truly enjoyable to see ut mired in mediocrity and misery for a while longer.
I used to like Tennessee 2nd to Alabama when I was a kid.
Fulmer changed all that, and I'll never like them again.
They went from worthy foe to enemy with the way they tried to 'secretly' kill our program.
UT is reaping what it's sown, and I enjoy watching the continued spiral.

I heard a lot of folks on the radio mentioning them going after Fedora if they missed on Strong.

Heard on the radio this morning that Fedora came out and said he plans to stay put, and they also said that he's probably going to get an extension.

UT fans are feeling probably about like we felt when we got turned down by Rich Rod (thanks goodness). I agree with Terry, Dave Hart's gotta be feeling the pressure...I think he, and most UT fans really felt like Charlie Strong was going to come to Knoxville.

For me, I miss being able to talk trash to some of my buddies that pull for UT, but I'm going to sit back and enjoy this time for what it is because believe me...it won't last forever.

The Haslam's will pony up some money eventually, but in all honesty, putting a bunch of money up doesn't solve everything...a lot of finding a good coach is about luck and timing.

Question: Do most AD's not send out "feelers" to potential candidates before they make a fire? It seems like it's more common than it should be that schools gets in this predicament.

I mean, I don't think there was any way that UT should have hung on to Dooley, but it just seems like Hart, and probably other AD's aren't prepared for what they face when conducting a coaching search.

Maybe I'm just being naive with the challenges of making a coaching chance...
