FAYETTEVILLE — Former Arkansas football coach Chad Morris has been hired as offensive coordinator at Auburn.

Morris’ contract details have not been released, but his annual pay will be reduced from the $2.45 million annual buyout owed to him by Arkansas through 2023.

He did a great job for Dabo at Clemson.
How much of an impact did Morris have at Clemson? It seems that story has been rewritten a bit since his time there.

I don't know how many recall what was going on with Clemson back then. Dabo fired Billy Napier (HC for the Ragin Cajun's now) and his new OC boiled down to Morris (one season at Tula as OC) and Justin Fuente (HC Va Tech.)

In the first season with Morris they improved four wins (6-6 to 10-4) with an ACC championship win over Va Tech. One of their losses was to UofSC, two others in conference play, and their fourth in the bowl game. In their teams, a better season. A good season, right?

Morris didn't get Clemson back to the ACCCG. The next three seasons Clemson lost every game to Florida State, Two of his final three they lost to UofSC. His last season a loss to UGA, FSU, and they were run over by Georgia Tech.

Morris is out.

The following year we had a ACCCG team, a playoff team, and the runner up in the national title game. Clemson was officially "on the scene." However, it was that season that Dabo backed off of his HUNH / Morris approach, brought in Scott and Elliott for co-OC's, and put the game more into Venables hands.

In the end we can look back and say Morris was a better option for Dabo following Napier, but I don't know how much credit we can give Morris for what we're seeing out of Clemson today. That's a Clemson career that ended in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
