A few odds and ends about this developing...

  • There's a chance it'll be announced before the regular season ends.
  • Invitations are out and according to Hancock "are being well received." A few, due to conflicts of interest, have declined.
  • The number is still 12-18 members—closer to 12 than 18.
  • They'll meet 6-10X per year for 2-3 days at a time.
  • Rankings will be released, not weekly, but roughly 3-5X a year.
  • Hancock said. "There will be no computer standings involved."
  • On one hand they say a broad set of criteria has been set, but on the other hand "specific guidelines aren't established." (In other words, they don't know?)

Do you think that it's odd that the rankings won't be done weekly? Even if they started several weeks in like the BCS rankings, people are going to want to know where their team is ranked asap.

Also, it's surprising that there is no computing done to help provide levity to the human element (bias). That omission could alter ranking based on emotion rather than stats.
I would've thought computers AND the human element have helped Alabama in the past.
What if 7 of the 12 hypothetically had a slight anti-SEC bias or Alabama bias?

Interesting, TerryP, thanks for the update.
This topic will surely rank at the top nearer to the end of this season.

Right now, I'm still stumped at Bama's run game traveshamockery.
