🏈 Cecil Hurt's wit is vastly underappreciated ..

Cecil is witty at times for sure, and I have no doubt he has his finger on the pulse of the program better than perhaps anyone in the media. However, I've long thought he started mailing in about 3/4ths of his articles several years ago. Most of them offer nothing insightful or even very original. While that's true of most writers around the state, he's not a beat writer...he's supposed to have "colomns" with something thought provoking if not substantive.

Multimedia has forced what I consider some pure writers into voice and video roles. Cecil is much more comfortable, to me, looking at a deadline instead of a camera or microphone. Some, like Finebaum, adjusted well. Montevallo had a good mass comm program when I was there, and the entire school was small at the time (capped at 2,600), so you knew most of the on-campus folks by sight, and some of the mass comm guys were friends. Junior (Jim) Dunaway used to sit in our chapter room with the sound down on the TV and call games. He was good then, and you knew he'd do well.
