šŸ“” CECIL HURT: Is Alabama’s high-powered offense taking a toll on the defense?

That was a lot of eye candy for a young defense to digest. I wasn't thinking their TEs would have that much success, but Eli, during pregame, was trying to tell us that this would be a formidable group. I just watched the replay again and about all I can say is that the defense played poorly at all levels.

I'd agree with Terry regarding the LB's and DB's.

For some reason those 2 groups aren't sorting out receivers & TE's appropriately. Saw twice last week we had 2 defenders sprinting towards one receiver in coverage... Both times the QB looked off and went to the open dude.

I think Moses' speed is his best and worst quality. If he's headed to the right gap he gets there in a hurry... if he's headed to the wrong gap he gets there in a hurry. Tough to expect All-American play from a soph who only got a taste of experience last season, but we'll need him to play better. Something missing from Mack's game right now as well... Seems like a mix of injury and mis-reads. Either way I'd expect him to pick it up

Yeah okay.

You have a long track record of having no idea what you are talking about so trust me when I tell you this is another one of those times.

I don't know what I'm talking about but "the linebackers" are the cause of miscommunication between the DBs? Keep spreading that unbelievable football knowledge you have there, buddy. And for the record, I could fit everything you "know" into a thimble and still have room for more...

I wasn't talking about the DBs. Haven't said a word about them at any point. The DB's have played much better than the LBs. It's the LB play that's at the root of a lot of the questions people are asking about the defense. I could explain, but what's the point. You wouldn't understand.

Don't respond to me again. Don't quote me again. Stay the fuck away from me, and I'll return those favors to you as well. You're really ruining my experience on this forum. In all the years I've participated on Bama forums (and I've visited almost all of them at some point or another) you are the only poster I've ever considered blocking from my view.

If Terry were to implement a "downvote" feature for post I think you might find out how annoying you are.

Anyhow, please stay away from my post, and I'll stay away from yours. Deal ? Thank you.

Got to thinking this Saturday night... If you really need to see what a scuffling Bama D looks like - Take Mack Wilson or D. Thompson off the field. At this point I think D. Thompson is our most important player outside of Tua. Which makes the court case that much more worriesome.

Next up would be Q Williams... But I love what Buggs has done the last couple weeks. Getting to be that point of season where the inexperienced transition into experienced.... Which X. McKinney is appearing to do... Which is cool. RTR

We are one step away from losing M. Wilson doesn't he have a bad foot as well? We need to get the running game going control the clock and let the defense stay on the sideline admiring a good tractor pull.

Double-edged sword with having such a lethal, quick-strike offense. Kinda hard for a defense to continue to suffocate for 4 quarters if you're only getting 2-3 min rest between series...

Never been a football coach but always wondered if this would work for a team like Alabama with so much depth & talent...

Once a half after one of Tua's patented quick scores - Just throw out the entire second unit for the entire series. Let them play it out with fresh legs and see what they can do. Seems like it would pay serious dividends for the starters particularly in the second half. For instance it seems like our DL rotation is as short as I can ever remember.... But pretty sure L. Ray, Dwight, and Mathis could give a quality series each half and put some pressure on the O.

Ultimately it will be most important to have the starters with some juice left in the 4th quarter. Don't want a repeat of the Clemson D. Watson 4th when we were absolutely beat down. Any thoughts?

I really don't expect to see as much of the quick strike stuff exploding against the elite defenses we see in the playoffs. In fact, once we get to Baton Rouge it may tell us a lot more about how we are going to execute our offense in the playoffs. I expect to see more sustained drives, a much stronger emphasis on the power run game, against the likes of LSU, the barn and Georgia. That in itself should change the narrative with our time of possession. Any team that gets to run 99 plays on our defense, any year, we are probably in big trouble.

If you are asking me that question, there is no question that it is taking a toll. The only difference in it and a three-and-out offense is that you are kicking (or attempting to kick :D) an XP instead of punting.

Then there is the matter of having subs on the field in the fourth quarter. Lessens the offensive and defensive production. Hell, at this point, I don't care how much the opponent scores as long as Bama out scores them by 3 or 4 TDs.

Let's look at this for a minute.

If we go by the premise that SEC teams are comparable within their first 22 and it's depth that's the key how does that play out? These quick strikes are against teams' 1's, right? LSU has a good secondary--athletic. Can they disguise coverages enough to confuse Tua on his reads?

Let me go off on something real quick. "LSU's secondary is athletic."

That's great, right? They've got a good back seven. What's being missed when people consider these matchups is the mistakes they make that normally lead to a 5 yard passing gain are mistakes that Jeudy and Ruggs making into a 50 yard mistake.
