...but one that has crossed my mind on several occasions.

We've witnessed what can almost be characterized as "uproar" from certain rivals about the "bump rule."

If that term is lost on you, it's the accusations that Saban has been skirting the rules when he visited campuses and ran into different recruits when he was there.

The last example was the recruitment of Keiwone Malone where we saw a good number of rivals question how Saban ran into him and called it improper contact because of the resulting interviews.

Of course, soon after that, Malone and his high school coached squelched those rumors.

What's ironic in these last few weeks is the same people who have yelled (and I can't think of a better term or want to) about these so called violations of the bump rule now are simply ignoring blatant secondary violations and praising the efforts in recruiting as "bringing attention to our program."

Here's Cecil's quote.

Concern about actual rules compliance, while it might be a concern among real supporters of the state’s institutions of higher learning (as opposed to just its football teams) doesn’t seem to be an issue in the rumor wars, not among rival fans or, in a more worrisome development, among some journalists. People who were gravely concerned about NCAA secondary violations when they involved Nick Saban and the ā€œbump ruleā€ are quick to praise obvious secondary violations of the rules regarding campus visits at Auburn as ā€œpushing the envelope.ā€ That’s not picking on one set of fans or the other. The law of ā€œvice versaā€ applies here.

Hurt on the off-season rumors and accusations.
