I find it odd that Del Rio wants/needed a scholarship. With his dad's money, he could afford to walk on at Harvard and pay tuition. Why the need or attention for a scholarship?

It's about the program committing to him as a potential contributor. While some will argue he wasn't the backup, you cannot argue he didn't beat multiple scholarshiped QB's out... According to Saban.

Not to mention it allows Saban to bring in yet another scholarshiped QB to compete with. Plus, who chooses to lose thousands of dollars? Lose/Lose/Lose for a walk on.

Fans are selfish and butthurt. The kid chose Alabama over numerous legitimate scholarship offers to come compete for a job... Beats a few guys out... Asks for the scholarship that others he beat out had been given... And he's entitled? You guys are backwards.

And don't get me wrong I don't blame Saban for not doing it. But LDR was not in the wrong either. Parker McLeod was on scholly... C'mon now. lol

True....but also don't know about the financial situation of the other scholarship QB's. While I know it is all about winning, Saban is big on making sure these guys have every opportunity to leave with an education that can help them with life after football. LDR having a scholly may have prevented one of these other guys from having a leg up on "making it" with a college education.

I know this is all pure speculation, but I would think the biggest thing in dealing with Del Rio would be playing time and not so much the scholarship.

It's not Del Rio's job to look out for the other QB's. If he's beating scholarshiped guys out he should be the priority... Alabama isn't a charity case.

Sounded a lot like he was told what it would take to earn a scholly... He thought he accomplished those objectivies... Saban thought otherwise. However Saban did say he was at least 3rd on the depth chart and there were at least 4-5 dudes on scholly back then.

I'm gonna let this die now. Would have responded earlier but couldn't log on... Bottom line is the kid passed up legit scholarships to earn one at UA and that is pretty bad ass in my book. Don't care how much money dad makes, that is an impressive mentality. Hating on him now is silly
