BYU confirmed to the Salt Lake Tribune that it has been conducting an investigation into allegations that current and former players received improper benefits from a former member of the school's football staff.

"BYU is aware of the allegations and has been conducting a thorough review of the matter," Duff Tittle, the BYU's associate athletic director, told the paper.

According to the report the investigation is centered on the school's former director of football operations, Duane Busby, and has been ongoing for several months. Busby resigned from his position in March after spending 18 years in the job.

Busby allegedly gave players discounted or rent-free housing, free meals and other gifts. The report says Busby favored offensive players at skill positions. Several players were contacted by the paper, but none said they received improper benefits from Busby or anybody else at the school. Some of the players contacted did say that they "heard" of players receiving benefits, but none went into any detail.

The report also states that BYU has either self-reported the violations to the NCAA, or is in the process of doing so.

The NCAA declined a chance to comment to the paper.
