So what's everyone's plans for this weekend?

I don't watch other teams, so I've got plenty of stuff planned I need to get done. I'll be buying a bunch of stuff from the hardware store. Then I MIGHT go to Costco to pick up a few things...haven't decided yet.

Plus I really need to cut the grass. Thankfully it hasn't rained in a while so it's not totally out of control, but it needs a cut.

The worst TV window I see is the afternoon games. Although, there's three I'll keep an eye on. The early games have five, the late games several as well. I want to see Bert and the Illini against Cignetti and IU.

So, I can't think of anything much different.

I'm surprised no one is mentioning food. But, we haven't seen that all year as it is...

Oh, and @TerryP. Im grilling this weekend and making ribs. Gonna use a dry rub for it, I already have what I usually use. Wanted to get some recommendations and maybe try something different.
If it was me, today, in my cabinet...

Meat Church, 'The Gospel' (You can get that shipped by Saturday. @Brandon Van de Graaff will attest. It's what the players were eating the other day.)
Rendezvous take off I made. I have the recipe on a drive...maybe in my cloud. It's as close as you can get to the Memphis restaurant, "Rendezvous."

A few months ago I made some (oven baked) and I used an injection. It was a "what the hell, let's see." That was from a bottom of Dreamland sauce I was given at Christmas. (I normally use it in boiled turkeys as an injection.)

Side? Wrap corn on the cob in aluminum foil. Drop four TBSP's of butter (real,) and a TBSP of Tobasco. It's not hot. But damn, the aroma will kill ya!

Let me go find my recipe...you might want to save it. I doubt you have all of these. Most don't (and I'm QUITE anal about having A LOT of spices on hand.)

CAVEAT: I haven't found anything that quite imitates Accent. It has MSG which I try to avoid. I have tried to mimic it...last batch came out moist and I don't know why...I think I might know.

1 TBSP:
  • Celery seed, crushed
  • Oregano, crushed
  • all spice seeds
  • Thyme, crushed.
  • Whole Coriander seed
1 tspn
  • Accent
  • ground Coriander
  • ground All-Spice
4 tspn yellow mustard seed
8 TBSP of paprika
4 TBSP of minced garlic and chili powder
3 TBSP of black pepper, ground.

You're going to get lumps...whisk and whisk and then make sure it's air tight. See the caveat.

It's a dry rub.

This sounds awesome. I'm gonna try this out if my local store have all the ingredients. They should, but they're usually bad about not keeping shelves stocked.

I'm cutting grass for the last time, painting fence. Unfortunately the spray gun wouldn't spit out the paint and we tried to clean it to no avail.

Sending it back and just go get new one.

It's pretty damn good. You can always order it if you prefer. It's probably about 10 bucks plus shipping. It's not as high as Dreamland.

The Firm put them on the map nationally. It was just a BBQ joint in Memphis, in the basement, across the street from The Peabody. That place is probably getting close to 80 years old now. I started trying to figure out their rub in the mid to late's 80's.

Well, my weekend starts off with our Homecoming football game Friday night.
Saturday morning I will go watch my grandson "try" to play pee wee football. It's his first year. Mrs. Bama and I will leave the football game and then make a 5 minute drive to watch our granddaughter play soccer. Geez! I hate this game with a passion.
Our youngest son, his wife and our granddaughter are driving up late Friday night from Mt. Juliet, Tn. so we will spend some time with them.
Saturday night I "get" to supervise a fall formal at school. It will be from 7-10pm.
Sunday morning we will all go to church and then back to the house to eat.
Sunday night back to church, come home and get clothes ready for work on Monday.

Wedding. Last year I attended a wedding during Vandy week. This bye week can't be worse.

I'm cutting grass for the last time,
I pulled up my Lowe's stuff to see when I did my winter/spring tune up on the mower. It was 1/21. That means that weekend. It also means the last time I cut the yard was a few days before that. My Crepe Myrtles are still blooming. My roses are.

So, based upon that? 👆 It ain't that finger.

I will be at the beach. Had to cancel the trip back in August to take care of the parents. (Covid).

I really thought I dodged a bullet, but the GF would not let it go that we didn't get to go.......so lucky me. Get to sit out under an umbrella and drink beer and try not to get sunburned. At least it won't be as hot as it was in August. I can't stand the beach, sand and sticky. Grub is about the only thing worth the trip IMO.
