šŸ€ Bruce Pearl retires at Auburn: Steven Pearl signs five year contract

Pearl is as sleazy as they come happy to see him go.
I'm stoked but a little hesitant on celebrating just yet. His son has been a solid defensive coach and he's young. Hoping of course they fall flat on their face and auburn fans will go back to pretending their basketball program doesn't exist.

Meanwhile we have an opportunity to really dominate the state under Oats.

Don't worry CNO will coach circles around that kid.

I live outside the state. What do you prefer over what you have?
One bag of shit deserves another!
I didn't/will not vote for tubby (I was at a bbq restaurant for lunch & the Tuberville bus (with tubby) pulled up. Guy offered me a button & I told him where he could stick the button).
Will not vote for Pearl.
I question anybody who trusts either piece of shit.

Wow. Nepotism reigns.
When Pitino's kid entered the coaching ranks he made news for a while; short lived as I recall. When Bobby Knight's son Pat started he crashed and burned.

Thinking about those two led me to wonder, "when has the apple fallen close to the tree" when it comes to a child following their parents in coaching?

Dooley. There's another that couldn't hold a candle to his dad.

I can't come up with an example of a son who followed in their parents footsteps in the coaching world and was successful.

Summit's son from UT...another.

Usually doesn’t end well.

There have been a few that beat the norm. The Shanahan’s, Shottenheimers, and Beamers come to mind in football. I’d consider Beamer somewhat of a success, some may not. I think he’s done pretty well at USC.

I'm surprised I didn't think of Shane Beamer. First impression? If you're including Schottenheimer you have to include Beamer. I'm not sure there are that many requirements to being named HC in Dallas. šŸ™ƒ

Yeah, there's a good bit of wishcasting going on in this thread. While I personally don't think Steven will work out long term, I don't think it was a bad gamble to give him a shot. But the fact is, Bruce reset the bar and the expectations for their basketball program... it would take some massive blows to undo that. And Steven treading water for 4 years isn't going to do it. Even then, it would be a highly sought after job.

Side note, I personally find Steven to be much less likeable than Bruce.

I don't doubt their defense will be a pain in the ass. But a coach like Bruce is not easily replaceable in a lot of areas. For one, Bruce was a master at calling which sets to set up the best mismatch. Their motion and ball screen action was pretty elite. Another thing was guard development. I still to this day watch some highlights of Jared Harper during their F4 run. I hated they got that run but you have to respect it. Lastly, Bruce knew exactly which buttons to push to handle adversity and get his guys to play tough every single game. How is Steven going to handle that if auburn has a 1-2 game slide?
