After consecutive 52-0 Alabama wins, the Arkansas-Tide rivalry isn't among the hottest in the SEC.
Razorback coach Bret Bielema had a few comments Tuesday that might help stoke the fires. Making his rounds at ESPN's Car Wash for SEC coaches, Bielema referenced a recent camp at Alabama and current offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin's actions while at Tennessee.
While appearing on a roundtable with Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin and Tennessee's Butch Jones, Bielema addressed a question about the year-round nature of the game.
"For the first time in NCAA history, they gave us a two-week dead period," Bielema said. "And I don't know about you guys, but it wasn't dead. Alabama got a way that they got to have a camp, everybody else had to abide by the rules. And for 14 days, we couldn't have anybody on campus."
That dead period ran from June 30-July 13. And, according to Alabama's camp flyer, the second high school camp ran from July 13-16.
Bielema didn't mention one fact, however. The NCAA granted Alabama a waiver to start the camp on the last day of the dead period. Within that 14-day period, coaches are prohibited from making in-person visits or evaluations.
Earlier in the day, Kiffin was the subject of a Bielema barb.
ESPN's Chris Low tweeted a quote from a roundtable discussion with ESPN writers that did not air on television or radio.
An Arkansas spokesman said Bielema was responding to a question about Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby's "cheating pays" comments.
Kiffin's Tennessee program committed 12 mostly minor recruiting violations in nine months during 2009, the NCAA concluded.
