When he says "4. Texas" does he actually mean Texas A&M?

Aggies at 13.

USC at #6??? :chat_headscratch:

Why is Stanford so low?

When it comes to research material and something to reference throughout the season there isn't a pre-season magazine better than Steele's.

When it comes to pre-season rankings? I don't put a lot of faith in his prognostications.

Last year it was

  1. FSU
  2. OU
  3. LSU
  4. USC
  5. Alabama
  6. Oregon
  7. TX
  8. UGA
  9. Wisconsin
  10. Florida

It ended up:

  1. Bama
  2. Oregon
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Georgia
  5. Texas A&M
  6. Stanford
  7. South Carolina
  8. FSU
  9. Clemson
  10. Florida

Seen something that I didn't. IMHO UGA was second best last year. They took us to the wire in the SECCG, best one in years.

Its gonna be intersting to watch Herbstreit this season.

I feel positive -that most of the world- will be Cheering on

Urban Buckwheat- to take us to the cleaners.

I don't know about that.

You won't find much love for Ohio State in the B1G. You'll find less love for Urban Meyer.

Do SEC teams feel more strongly about Bama losing or seeing Urban get his legs cut from underneath him again?

I am more talking about the "sports media"
than the average fan.

BUT- I think that applies as well.

OUTSIDE of the South
do you Really think- many people
want to see us in the National Championship
AGAIN.

I don't see any "conspiracy"
I just think Most people
(UNLESS YOUR A NORMAL RED BLOODED BAMA FAN)

want to see different Teams have their shot.

I however- think its perfectly "natural"
for us to be there- from now
until the rapture.

Or until Blondie has their next hit single
whichever comes first.....................

Watching fan reaction around college football I saw some fans rooting for Notre Dame but overall I believe it was about a 50-50 split. While they may have wanted to see a team other than another SEC team—or in this case Bama—win there was still the dislike of Notre Dame that overshadowed the "anti-SEC" bias.

Ohio State carries the same "dislike quotient" from a lot in college football.

IF we're fortunate to get back to the BCSNC, and we're playing at the same level we've been the last few years in January, we'll see some of the media propping up Ohio State but with hollow argument. I feel certain we'll see a good majority comment that they're over their head.

A few reasons behind my thinking:

Last year they weren't a lot different than Notre Dame. A lot of that "undefeated mystique" disappeared when the media saw the dismantling of the Domers. Then, that mystique coupled with things like it taking OT to get past Purdue, a win over Michigan by less than a touchdown, and allowing Indiana to not only drop 49 points on the Buckeyes but the Hoosiers only losing by three tarnished that undefeated record.

The media didn't accept the comments made by Gee as appropriate and the Ohio State administration just pushing him to the background instead of out-right firing him didn't go un-noticed.

They still remember the "self-imposed suspensions" just a few years ago with Tressel and Pryor which ended up being no suspension at all.

People point to last year as an indicator of their anticipated success this year. I see a team that eerily reminds me of Michigan in 2011.

Terry
even though- It AIN"T likely that we'll end up playing them anyway
it is >JUNE<.
So why not think it thru.

Below is Ohio States "schedule"

Dear Lord-
IF they don't WIN ALL Those
games- somethings up.

Which pretty much proves your point.
IF they make it to the NC-

They'll be Un-Tested.

And we'll be- "Beat-To-Crap"
as usual.
And STILL Win The game.

Hell-
I feel better already...............

This WHOLE Deal- is gonna
take on a Brand New Beginning
as sooooon- as PLAYOFFS Begin.

This kinda conversation will no longer exist.
And I'll say- Good Riddence.

This kinda conversation will no longer exist.
And I'll say- Good Riddence.

The chances of the two teams meeting are slim. I'd agree with that wholeheartedly.

The chances of Bama being able to make it back to the BCSNC? Odds are with the field instead of Bama on that one. It's possible, history says highly unlikely.

Here's the thing. "This kinda conversation will no longer exist" can be phrased "this kinda conversation will be much longer and more in-depth next June. The only thing that changes is the context: will we be one of two teams or one of four?

I have noticed a few articles in the last week about Meyer's teams in year two. I've not read any of them. They'll be a "media sensation" because there's only so much more one can say about any other contenders.

I can say this with no doubt. We'll catch the Aggies Saturday afternoon in week three. Ohio State is in Cali that day facing Cal. Your major network coverage that night will be Notre Dame vs Purdue. I'll have one screen watching the Buckeyes.

For Ohio State to finish second and go to the BCSNCG, would, without question, require them to go undefeated. Lose to anyone on that schedule, or in the B1GCG, and they ain't gonna be there. Therefore, that would also require them to have won 25 straight games. In the past ONE HUNDRED YEARS only 19 Division 1A teams have won 25 straight games. It ain't happening. tOSU ain't gonna be #20.

Even if they did, for Ohio State to finish second after the BCSNCG, as Steele has it, would require them to play Bama a close game. Anything else and they finish third or worse. Playing Bama close ain't happening either. Bama would beat tOSU as bad as they beat ND.

IOW, tOSU has a snowball's chance in hell of finishing second as Mr. Steele has it. As great as they are, the odds of Bama finishing first are better than tOSU finishing second.

Can anyone tell me the number of returning starters at LSU. I missed his write up on them. Number had to be revised down from his list in January. Don't know why he doesn't wait until after the NFL draft to put out that list.
