Matt Elam, four-star defensive tackle from John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown, Ky., spoke with Alabama head coach Nick Saban Monday evening.
Elam tweeted, "Just Go Off The Phone With One Of The Best Coaches Ever !! Its Always A Blessing To Talk To Coach Saban. And I Cant Wait Till The LSU Game ��"
I spoke with Elam tonight about his conversation with Coach Saban.
"We were just catching up," he said. "He was telling me how good I can be. He talked about the LSU game which I will be at. Coach Saban and I talk on the phone every two weeks. I talk to Coach Thompson almost daily, but Coach Saban and I are great. Our relationship is only getting better."
Most schools have Elam as the top priority on the defensive line.
"I like being at the top, so it's very humbling," he said of Alabama. "They are low on defensive linemen. It's a good time to come in and play."
The battle for Elam is expected to come down to Alabama and Kentucky. Notre Dame, Ohio State and Tennessee are also contenders. He watched the Bama/UT game.
"They blew Tennessee out of the water," he said. "It opened my eyes to both teams greatly. It doesn't make me less interested in Tennessee. It was Bama."
Elam will attend the Alabama/LSU game as an unofficial visitor. He plans to take an official visit to Alabama in December.
"I am really excited about the visit," he said. "I can't wait."
