🏀 Bob Simon fired

JMO but I believe the Braxton Key situation might be part of this deal.
There may be a ripple effect in play with Key. When it comes to the part of Simon's story that involves a player, it's more about Davis.

Simon's dismissal was expected a few weeks before the stories about Key contemplating moving to the next level started breaking.

You think Simon was telling Davis to "look elsewhere" or maybe a rift between the two caused Davis to "want to look elsewhere"?

No. It was akin to a thread we had here in the recruiting season. Was it Mac Jones making the verbal to UA only to have one of the UK coaches take to Twitter "cautioning" him about his decision? I know we saw another team have one of its coaches take to Twitter to voice his opinion on a transfer or flip back in the fall as well--Texas Tech, maybe?

When Davis posted a Tweet about his plans, and what he was considering, Simon took to Twitter with a comment about him being careful who he was listening to for advice. I can't recall the exact wording. I do recall how I felt reading his tweet--it reaked of snideness.

Avery didn't like the way Simon was dealing with Davis. His (Simon's) actions were considered as close to be divisive as they could be. Simon was essentially phased out of next year's plans several weeks ago--due to his own actions.

Remember. Simon was brought in largely due to his time with the AAU circuit with recruiting in mind. To a lesser extent, his input in the X's and O's of the college game. When Pel was added last year those coaching duties changes--a demotion for Simon is one way to consider the move.

If that's so, you're left wondering how that divisive spirit has trickled down to the other players and what morale is like with the team now and the effect it could have had during this past season. I don't ever recall hearing anything credible on why Bama basketball was suddenly under the 13 recruits needed for depth and practice time even with the new guys coming in.

I recall that thread now. I follow a few of the coaches for each sport but didn't follow Simon, so I missed his tweet. Thanks for shedding that light!

Was it Texas A&M and the whole Tate Martell and his receiver buddy when the coach unloaded on Twitter?

Personally, I was a little shocked it didn't get more play. I didn't post it because I didn't like the look (much like some of the tweets we've seen from former baseball players about Goff--not a good look.) I suspect the Bama media guys didn't push it was well. Maybe, just maybe, because they didn't want earlier criticisms voiced at other coaches coming back to bite them? I don't know.

That certainly was one of the worst cases we've seen. Aaron, something, right? Moorehead, maybe? I'd have to look it up.

That was a real convoluted story with Martell's father saying it was Mazzone that led to the de-commitment, wasn't it? There was/is so much crap coming out of College Station these past few years it's hard for me to keep all the stories straight.

BTW, now that I think about it, Martell's story is a lot like Key's ... at least it's beginning to appear that way. Martell had friends who backed out of going to A&M due to that fiasco. Key was good friends with Ferguson and he planned on playing with him. Is that weighing in with Key's decision making? I strongly suspect it is.
