🏈 Blitz packages versus Arkansas and its implications...

A few days before the game yesterday a few of us had a conversation talking about how we should expect to see Arkansas score at least once, if not twice. One of the things I pointed to, as well as several others, was that we can expect a defensive breakdown a few times in every game. It happens when you have talented players going against talented players.

Interestingly enough, we only ran one blitz Saturday. On that play we had a couple of guys not hit the correct gaps and then a chance to put the ball on the ground and we didn't. Its result? The 19 yard touchdown pass to Hamilton for Arkansas' last TD.

Wilson wasn't sacked once. Gentry did get Mitchell for our only sack on what looked like a broken play.

However, there isn't a soul here that can honestly say we didn't effect the quarterback.

Do you remember Wilson getting in Upshaw's face early on in the game? My thought was "you've got to be kidding me. Do you really want to piss Courtney off?!?!" Well, as it happens, just a few plays later DQ gets his pick and Wilson meets a defender blocking around the goal line.

Upshaw.

And, it wasn't the last time those two "ran into" each other.

this was one of those games where stats wont tell the whole story especially as far as sacks go. the wilson kid, honestly later in the game i felt sorry for him. he took a brutal beating yesterday. it's been since the michigan state game when i felt like the other team should be allowed to forfeit in the interest of player safety.

Terry I was thinking the same thing. And to add to that, I don't want my QB "jawing" with anybody. I knew right then, we were in his head...heck, Wilson didn't even look over at his coaches to get the next play call until there was 18 sec. left on the play clock. They had to burn a TO over his antics.

I thought the same thing! There was an article last week about how our defensive pressure is overrated. I'd love to see how that would be spun now after the Arky game. I tell you though that Wilson kid took lick after lick and kept coming back. He's really tough to keep standing up to what was coming his way down after down.

I will be pulling for him vs. Auburn and LSU for sure. If he plays the way he did yesterday against Auburn it will be too much fun.

Wilson was tired of "meeting" Upshaw" by the end of the game. That play was hilarious considering Wilson got in his face.....what was that guy thinking? CU is a beast. I saw that blitz and cringed when I saw the pass going to the middle of the field. Our defense pushed their oline around all day.
