Has anyone else seen some of the negativity towards Sims that I have with alot of Bama fans (coming from Facebook, twitter, website comments, etc.)? Almost none of them have sound reasoning, I've seen things like "he doesnt have the skillset that Bama needs" or "if he is even thought of for a 2nd and 3rd string spot its a bad sign." Im just kind of lost, anyone seen this stuff and know what the deal is? Where did the Blake Sims hate come from all of a sudden?

Birdman37 My guess is that he isn't the type of QB (dual threat) that they (those fans) are used to seeing at Bama. Also he hasn't really had the game time to show his "skill set" in my opinion. Its my belief that he woudn't still be on the roster if the coaches didn't approve..... soooooooo with that being said, my the best QB win the battle.

I've noticed the same thing. I don't get it either.

mrchase I agree he hasnt had the game time to show it either but neither did AJ before 2011 or Greg before 2009... Dont get the hate, maybe Im just too caught up with the thought adding that dynamic of the run threat to the QB spot but I just dont get where the criticism comes from. Now if he gets a shot and sh*ts the bed, criticism deserved. But not yet at least.

I don't FB or Twitter so I haven't heard any of those comments. It's difficult to judge Sims bc he has not seen meaningful duty in a game. We all know he can run the ball and he will continue to work on his passing this offseason. IMO, he deserves an equal shot along with the others competing for the job.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I just noticed that when a poster types someone's username, it shows up as @whatever. Is this something new? A quicker way to that user's profile?

Almost every day I find solid affirmation why my avoidance of facebook is wise.

I've always been one to keep different quotations I've run across handy. It's as much for personal life lessons as it is for situations like this.

I don't know of any criticism, but I do know about some doubts. I really don't think he has that strong of an arm when watching him. Other than last years A-Day game (which prior to the game, he was praised for his arm in practice), we really haven't seen much of him to give a good analysis on him. I'd rather wait till the upcoming A-Day game to judge about next years QB's.

When has an A-day game defined what a QB can, or will, do in the football season?

I could sit here and say, "he went 14 for 18 in game last season therefore he's one of the most accurate passers we've ever had in Tuscaloosa." The 14 for 18 is true—it was against Georgia Southern.

Which gives a more accurate view on how he'll do, A-day or a game like that? I'd say the actual game and it still doesn't give us the slightest clue.

We could sit here and say, "he's a great scrambler" but we really don't know that either. There's no way to judge his instincts based on the teams he's faced.

Of course quarterbacks get the most scrutinized... some warranted but most not. For the average fan, Sims has not impressed with his ability to move the offense consistently. Bama has far more current inventory than other schools and they will have the best performer out there.

My only criticism of Sims has to do with his seemingly lack of confidence and I think its because his role as backup and his general lack of playing time. Admittedly, us armchair QBs only see so much of his true ability. With that being said, my observation of Del Rio at the last A Day game and his general demeanor strikes me as very confident and even a little cocky. Coaches love this and fans love this too. Of course this means nothing..just an opinion... haha

I’ve mentioned several times how I thought Philip Sims would be the quarterback after his performance in his last A-Day game. Yeah, he would get the starting nod over AJ. None of us know what happens behind the scenes. I don’t make predictions on starters anymore.
