šŸˆ Birmingham is paying extra $200,000 this year for its bowl game since still no title sponsor

Isn't that the barner A?
I think it the emblem of the All America conference.

The city is looking on this as an investment, figuring they will make their money back if they get the barn for the bowl game. I am not sure how well even the barn will attend this game, and even if they do, most will probably just come on game day and drive home afterwards rather than staying around and spending a lot of money in the city.

@psychojoe no it the barner A. ;) You right drive up here for the game and drive home. By the way, do you really think the barner want to play a game here with the great coach of all time is watching over them? Think about that!

how in the hell is the city of birmingham going to pay that much for anything? they're broke as hell.

a few weeks ago, instead of voting to fix police vehicles that were badly needing some work done, the city council chose to give themselves a huge raise (~50%...maybe?). and this was after they said that there wasn't enough money to get the vehicles fixed. of course they got reamed for that so they backed up and decided to finally get the police vehicles fixed.

so i ask again, where in the hell is the city of birmingham going to get that money?!

I agree. If the teams that get the bham bowl are close to home, they won't make any money... it's not like people want to tour Birmingham and hang out for a weekend. Auburn fans probably won't even watch/attend their own bowl this year.

Hire Walter White.

The Breaking Bad Birmingham Bowl...... I'm sure they'll rake in plenty of cash in the Legion Field area.

300k was already budgeted for this. They took the last 200k they got as part of the BP oil settlement for the remainder.

This is wrong on a bunch of levels. Bham suffered an actual loss from the BP disaster and deserved compensation? Pigs at the trough. As noted, for a horribly run and financially fragile municipality like Bham, saying they actually had $200M lying around is, well, lying.

Bowl games jumped the shark years ago. That ESPN sits on pins and needles each year to make sure there are enough .500 teams to fill their bloated schedule says it all. Drop 10 bowls, starting with the Bham Bowl. Better yet, drop 15. How many are there now? 40? Make some of those 6-6 miss out on their "reward" for a noteworthy season.

Tim
