They still have to sit out a year and that's the happy compromise. Even though for a player to not go through the head coach makes life a lot easier and perhaps will embolden some to pay the price.

But we're within a hair of that changing, too. I'm telling you its going to happen and I think it does in the next few years. They are going to use the excuse of "keeping the field competitive" as an excuse, so that schools like Alabama can't "horde" top talent. It will happen. But what they dont get is this will work both ways. What are they going to say when Alabama has a starting QB graduate (or go pro) and then headed into a year with no experienced QBs on roster, a top-tier QB over at a big school that isn't winning decides he wants to come get a ring and he doesn't have to sit out a year to get it?

I don't have everything will be OK scenario in my head if a complete free agency takes place because it will not. On the other hand, the kids that were transferring but couldn't get to the school they wanted had to go the JUCO route and then pick the school they wanted. Getting to your next school earlier seems like a big advantage to get acclimated to teammates, know the playbook. If you ask me why we have this new rule it's because HCs were doing too much blocking.

I'm not saying it won't hurt at all but I would say Saban would be able to work through it and use it to his advantage in some instances.
