this is a snipit from fox sports....

All-Big 12 title game?
It could happen. Of course, lots of things could still happen.

But consider that if Texas Tech or Oklahoma runs the table and Florida gets tagged with a second loss before facing and beating Alabama in the SEC championship game, we could see Texas sneak into the title game for a rematch with the Big 12 champion.

i was under the impression that you had to win your conference in order to play for the national championship..

if not, then why didn't georgia play for the title instead of lsu last year?

could someone clue me in on the rules here? if there are any..

The BCS doesn't care about winning a conference. It's all about points. Hell, Nebraska played Miami at the first of this decade and they didn't even win the north division to play in the conference championship.

It could happen, but it's not out of the possibility that Florida and Alabama could play for the BCS. It just depends on the circumstances.

It's also going to piss a bunch of people off IF Bama and Texas Tech win out.

Didn't Oklahoma play for the BCS title a couple of years ago, after LOSING in the Big 12 title game???

In respect to rules, I'm not sure what they are in the technical sense.

However, as mentioned above, I feel confident that Oklahome played for the title after losing in the conference title game. I remember the uproar that caused!

In respect to LSU...the world may never know. I'll go to my grave never understanding how LSU had the right to play for the title.

I thought I was right, just wanted to make sure. :)

I remember watching this game. It was COLD AS COLD COULD BE. It was at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City and it was a THUMPING!

I was 99.9% sure on this one, but I didn't wanna "call it" until someone could back me up.

Thanks :)

Another proof that the BCS...is BS.

Indeed he was.

That season marked the last time K-State was anything in college football. Sounds harsh...but it's true.

As Argo said, conference championships have absolutely nothing to do with the BCS championship game.

In recent years, several news organizations have influenced and tricked voters into believing that if a team doesn't win the conference championship game they can't play in the NC game.

That is false and always has been. In addition to the team, Nebraska, that Argo mentioned, Oklahoma did almost the same thing.

They did manage to win their division of their conference, but lost the conference championship game and still went on to play LSU in the NC game.

Last year, lot's of lying and misinformation was being purposely propagated by ESPN hosts, I suppose they received their marching orders from the higher ups at ESPN.

The charge was on to see how many times analysts and hosts could repeat the lie that Georgia had to win their conference to play in the NC game.

Due to this intentional misrepresentation, a #3 Georgia was jumped by a #7 or lower, might have even been #9, LSU after LSU won the SEC Championship game.

Many of the voters took what ESPN told them as gospel and did exactly what ESPN told them to do, which was to vote LSU into the NC game over Georgia, a much more highly ranked team.

By doing this, many voters violated the trust placed in them to vote for the best team to play in the NC game.

That is what the BCS is all about, matching the two best teams, not necessarily two conference champions. That is why when the BCS was formed, it was made crystal clear that a conference championship was not required to play in the NC game.
