🏈 Bateman vs. Coker QB Duel !!!!

This is hypothetical, but from what you have seen on film and maybe from A-Day of the two throwing the football, who wins a QB throw-off today?

p.s. please do not hijack this thread with "what about Blake Sims?" comments. this is hypothetical.

IMO in terms of purely throwing the football, not a lot separates the two. Coker appears a bit better on short quick pass accuracy, but Bateman has better touch on the longer passes. Bateman appears to survey the field a little better. Coker stares receivers a bit more, especially for an older QB. Coker has trouble getting his passes over the LOS even though he's a big guy which says a little bit about his throwing motion and form. He doesn't back up far enough in the pocket for his pass plays and stays too close to the LOS.

Most of Bateman's negatives are just a matter of experience and maybe a little need for some added poundage to his frame to take the SEC snot-bubble hits.

If i had to pick one today, I would begrudgingly pick Coker even though Bateman is, IMO, more of a pure passing QB and will likely develop into a very prolific passer. Coker's size and athleticism count for a lot when it comes to the weekly grind of the season.

I think if the two were starting out as frosh together, Bateman wins hands down.

I'm curious about one thing here, @jdpas29

You're critique of Coker is based on what? To my recollection, there's been one highlight video that's circulated the web on Coker. Is it coming from that video?

well you can watch every play of his from 2013 on youtube. It includes their spring game and all the plays he made during the year i think. so yes. we have nothing else to go on. likewise we only have highlight reels from high school of Bateman and one spring game worth of tosses. I consider that to skew the data in favor of Coker a bit given his performance in real-time situations is evident.

Just messing with ya.

I haven't seen enough on Coker to say one way or another. Has some pros and some cons from what little I've seen...not sure he's going to fix the cons in the little time he has, although he'd have 3 weeks after WVU to continue to work on it prior to Florida. Which offensive line did Bateman play behind at A-Day again?

I'm not jumping on anyone's bandwagon for the QB position (although I'm very tempted to).

I'd pick Coker just because he has two more years under his belt in college and he's a bigger dude. I haven't bought into the "barely got beat out by Jameis" talk.

That pretty much mirrors my thinking. The only thing that keeps coming to mind is hearing coaches give that type of praise out, for a guy who's transferring, doesn't happen often. That's weighed with the FSU staff hasn't maintained an aura of being above board about everything lately.

Good timing on the thread. I expect we'll see word in the next 24 hours that JC is in town.
