🏀 🏀 In other NCAA basketball action—Conference Championship Weekend

Caught a little of the UK and FL game. That big guy down low for Florida is going to be a challenge for Bama this week. Better be ready to play better than they did today. At least it is at home.

Castleton. We've done well against him his whole career at Florida. Bediako needs to just start playing better inside. He has played soft as charmin paper since shutting down Tshiebwe.

But we better not overlook Florida at home. They are good enough to be a threat. However their offense is clunky as hell and they don't shoot well.

I’ve got a call in for an official review in that Barner/Vol “foul/no foul” play. My Dad was a basketball official for 42 years so he knows it better than this old coach. If I’m Pearl, I’m bitching and screaming about the defender not giving Green room to come down, similar to a blocking foul where defender slides under him. If I’m Barnes and that foul is called, I’m raising hell that Green initiated contact by flailing his arms and legs.

My dad said that it could’ve gone either way. Personally, he said he would’ve done as they did and let it go. Green trying to initiate contact was reason enough to swallow the whistle. Also, defender does have to allow for the shooter to come down.

That's how I saw it, but I'm far, far for anything that would resemble even a remotely competent basketball official at even the church league level. But, I kinda felt that if he hadn't kicked his legs out and tried to initiate more contact, a foul would have probably been called. Basically, it was unnecessary, and sort of canceled out, in a way, the much more legitimate foul on his way up.

I hate how officials have turned this into an automatic defensive foul. Another reason I've quit watching basketball except for Bama games.
Basketball officiating has always been more subjective to me than in any other sport outside of the ump behind the plate. A lot like judges when it comes to interpretation of our Constitution, strict interpretation and bending it to fit today’s ideas.
Maybe if I had worded it differently, you might see why. Like a ball in baseball, the pitcher must perform the same motion, complete stop etc, trying to trick the runner. If the shooter takes 15 shots without contact and never once kicks his legs out, but on 16th shot he does, he isn’t going to get the call.

Basketball was good in the bad boy Piston days…Now you aren’t allowed to do real defense.. Basketball, like football, has made so many anti defense rules that all you see is alot of point scoring…These so called elite players nowadays would’ve been average back when basketball had real defense…

I agree that todays’ players would struggle in the physical games of the past. The whining that Lebron did last week about the no call against the Celtics. He would’ve been knocked into the 3rd row against the likes of a Mahorn, Laimbeer, Parrish, Oakley type. He would’ve been called out for that whining as well.
The no call in the Barn/Viles game literally could’ve gone either way.
