🏀 GAME THREAD 🏀 2025-26 Season Archived Game Threads.

Had as good of a half as you can have in the firs half. A bit of a slump most of the 2nd half but picked it up at the end. Nice 25 point home win.

I think that is expected to happen. Look back at the Arkansas game. I think the averages kick in as well as the game itself and it's almost impossible to stay high for 40 minutes. We don't have an NBA caliber starting roster to expect both halves at that type of level. I noticed the slump for sure, but we still hit 100 points when I wasn't certain that would happen first "half" of the second half.

I am going to throw this out here for you to like or dislike, its just my opinion. I think we play better offensively when Philon is not in the game. There is a better flow, the ball is moved around (instead of watching him dribble) and we get better looks. As I stated in the last basketball thread, we are a completely different team, not good, when Holloway is not running the point.
I would profer the game plan changes. I'd have to look but I'm thinking more 3PTA. State matches a season high of 22 3's. The other was against Yale: Philon didn't play.

I think that is expected to happen.
Put your thinking hat on for a second.

When that "lull" started I saw more pressure at the arc. They, as they've always done, went inside. It got rough in there which eventually led to CNO's T. State caught a bit of a hot hand in the stretch. But, it all came down to what was happening inside.

My view...

I just think it means we need Holloway to be our primary ball handler and allow Philon to play offball more. Much better to screen him to get a better matchup and allow him to slash to the basket. Philon is a damn good guard capable of breaking down the defense, facilitating, hitting 3s, and creating tough baskets around the rim. The ball can stick to him at times when he's running the offense unfortunately.

I couldn't get it on TV, so I was following on the ESPN app. I couldn't get a good feel for what was happening. I'm simply stating the law of averages kicks in and you ain't shooting 65% from three for 40 minutes.

Against Arkansas in the 2nd half the team was shooting 80% a good part of the half. Not sure how they finished. That is a crazy stat as is the 65%. Oats has always said this could be his best shooting team. They can do this against average to good teams. Against elite teams that can guard they have not been able so sustain it and I guess that is understandable. I do hope they continue getting healthier and they keep up the momentum down the stretch.

No doubt. Hopefully we hit a hot stretch here soon.

Agree, we do become stagnant on offense when he is running point. Lots of guys standing around watching him dribble.

Oats has to prove he can beat a Barnes coached team. Not sure he can plus our challenges usually are against good defensive teams with some physicality and inside folks. I really do not recall what their team has this year but that is normally the case under Barnes. Those teams are usually matchup issues for Oats teams.

We have got to get out to a fast start and play defense to the best of our ability without fouling. Viles will try and muck it up and make it a bar fight.
In the last game 66% of their FGA's came from two players: Avent and Gillespie. 53 of their 79 points. Now they add Holloway and Allen in the mix. UT's Estrella had seven attempts in the last matchup. He's not healthy. It looks like TBB is getting his legs back.

This one has such a different dynamic than the last loss.

Oh, Bama was less than 25% for 3PA's last time around...don't see that happening again either.
